I'm conflicted. I like those games and I feel strongly some of those do belong there like Jumping Flash, Metal Gear, Wild Arms, and Twisted Metal.
And there's a couple I haven't played on there, but I find the list disappointing. Its almost like it needs more than 20 games.

And none of the Sega classic consoles have the Yamaha chip. Same with those Retron things. There's a clear difference in a lot of music, the drum beats it provides is what makes Genesis games music unique. A lot of stuff seems to fall flat without it.

So... since reading the list earlier today, I kept getting this nagging feeling to give very short thoughts on each of the 20 games on the PSClassic and so that's what I'm gonna do. Any game in a genre I don't care for will get passed on since those games were obviously not put on there with people like me in mind.

Battle Arena Toshinden - I'm sure this got put on here for historical purposes (being the first 3D fighting game on the PS1 I think) but current reviews for this game call it super clunky and not fun to play so yeah they should have put something else here. Maybe a 2D fighter like KOF '95? I dunno...

Cool Boarders 2 - People who haven't played any extreme sports games older than Tony Hawk's Pro Skater may turn up their nose at the trick system but, to me, this was an awesome addition to the PSC. It's one of the first few games I got when I bought a PS1 back in 2011/2012 (can't remember which one) and I still pop it in from time to time. "Coooooooool BOARDERS!"

Destruction Derby - Closest I've gotten to playing a Destruction Derby game was a demo of Destruction Derby Raw waaaaay back when but people really seem to like this first game so I have no problem with it being here.

Final Fantasy VII - Pass.

Grand Theft Auto - While a recent purchase of GTA 2 made me realize the 2D GTA games had a few serious flaws (like limited lives and making saving your game a pain in the ass), I still remember just going around causing mayhem in GTA 1 and having a blast. I don't mind this being here though I'll admit I prefer the 3D games that came much later.

Intelligent Qube - Outside of the Bust-A-Move games, this was the puzzle game I was hoping to see come on the PSC the most. A complete copy of the original release has gotten pricey in recent years and hasn't been re-released on PSN here in the U.S. so any puzzle fan planning on getting the PSC really owe it to themselves to try out one of the most unique and addicting puzzle games in the history of video games. "PERRRRRRFECT!"

Jumping Flash - Never played this but, since watching Stop Skeletons From Fighting's review of the game a few years back, I've been meaning to give it a try.

Metal Gear Solid - While most would say MGS3 is the best in the series, my heart still belongs to this game as far as the Metal Gear series goes. Maybe I just prefer the more modern setting and the overhead view which made stealth less frustrating to me. And that story. Despite owning quite a few MGS games, this is the only one I've played through from start to finish. Putting it here was a no brainer.

Mr Driller - Never played this one but, if it's at least as good as Mr. Driller: Drill Spirits for the DS, I'm all for putting it here.

Oddworld: Abes Oddysee - Never played but the fanbase this series has is undeniable. I'll have to check it out for myself some day.

Rayman - A review from Caddicarus mentioned the game's difficulty kind of gets into the bullshit category halfway through which makes me question if it should be here. Then again, I'm sure it was either between this or Rayman 2 which has been ported almost as many times as Ms. Pac-Man has been put on different Namco Museum compilations so I guess giving the first game more exposure isn't such a bad idea... maybe.

Resident Evil Directors Cut - While I personally prefer Resident Evil 2, this first game is still a very welcomed addition to the PSC. Also, good on Sony to pick the version with more bonus content and better balancing.

Revelations: Persona - Pass (though, going by the comments here, I'm guessing this one isn't worth anyone's time).

(continued)

Ridge Racer Type 4 - Never played this one but I have played a demo and a full version of two separate RR games and they have me conflicted. If Type 4 handles like the demo of Ridge Racer Revolution then they could have found something much better to take this spot. If, however, it handles like Ridge Racer 64 then I'm all for keeping this one here.

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo - Played a demo of the HD version on Xbox Live back in... late 2008? Anyway, it's pretty good. Would have preferred Bust-A-Move or the fighting game spin-off Pocket Fighter here but it's not like this is a bad pick or anything.

Syphon Filter - Never played this one but the sequel was fun. Hopefully, there aren't too many differences between the two games that would make me regret saying I don't mind Syphon Filter being here.

Tekken 3 - Even though I personally prefer Tekken 2, I wasn't even mad when I first heard Tekken 3 would be representing the series for the PSC. One of the best 3D fighting games for the system and a ton of bonus content to make most players happy.

Tom Clancys Rainbow Six - Now here's a head scratcher. For years and years, I've heard that the PS1 port of Rainbow Six took the tactical shooter of the PC original (and, to a lesser extent, the N64 port that I'm more familiar with) and turned it into a generic FPS without any of the cool detailed planning before missions. This spot should have been given to Armored Core and, to get it out of the way here and now, yes not getting Armored Core, G-Darius and Parasite Eve in the U.S. version of the PSC is some BULLSHIT!

Twisted Metal - On one hand, yes the superior Twisted Metal 2: World Tour definitely should have taken this spot but it's not like the first game sucks or anything. It's still an amazing addition to the PSC and one I think people are going to really like. Besides, it could be much worse. *turns gaze over to Twisted Metal 3 & 4 and cringes*

Wild Arms - Pass.

So, overall, I think people interested in the PlayStation Classic have a lot of good to look forward to although there are also some obvious duds here that should be avoided like the bubonic plague. Would have liked to see Parappa the Rapper or any of the Tomba games replace stuff like Rainbow Six, Persona and even Battle Arena Toshinden. Still, if I find this for cheap down the line, I wouldn't mind grabbing it for myself.

Don't like RPGs. Or, rather, don't like RPGs with turn-based combat or something close to it (like FFVII's "Active Time Battle" system). The big exception is Pokmon and, even then, my enjoyment of those games comes more from powering up my monsters, catching as many different types of monsters as I can and full on nostalgia more than the battles themselves (which I usually only half pay attention to for the most part).

Or Spyro games?
Or Crash games (or Tag Team Racing)?
Or Tomb Raider?
Or FF Tactics?

Im interested in maybe 2 games on that list and FF7 can be bought on the PS4 already, which is probably a lot cheaper.

PS1 without Crash, Spyro, Tony Hawk and Need for Speed is worthless.

How are they going to license all the songs again for THPS? Not to mention all the skaters likenesses. And if it was No.2, then you have Spiderman also.

TBF Crash and Spyro just got remasters.

Need for Speed probably had crazy issues with EA also. Note how SimCity (SNES) is no longer available.

Which is just another example of how the current licessing system is broken. Not only all that is too old to make any difference nowadays profit wise, it also works as advertisement for those people. And they would want to charge for that? lol

I understand why crash and spyro aren't in, but with such a weak (and small) lineup, they would benefit from adding them. And I'm not even going to comment on EA. Why do they even still own NFS anyway, dammit.

A lot of artists dont like that mentality. Us using your stuff for free is great advertising for you! Then theyre like oh cool, why dont you send me your games for free and Ill tell all my friends about it!

If it's a 20 year old game, I don't see the problem either...
