yeah it sounds like it was more like he was thinking wth is going on or maybe someone he knew was having trouble opening the door, so he opened it. i meant that he probably thought someone he knew who had access to his place was having trouble opening the door, so he went to open it.

she was trying to open the door and he heard all that noise, so he opened the door. then boom. like when you hear someone trying to open a door.

if that is the case though, then yeah, she should be charged with worse for shooting that dude asap. but the police are keeping the identity of this woman a secret. a lot of details a secret as well. still trying to figure out what happened.

this is wild tho. we know what he looks like, but we don't even know what she looks like.

I guess someone might try to get her back if they knew her name or what she looked like...

I havent, but Ive had someone else try to get into my place when I was in college. I was in the dorms and it was like 3am on a Friday or Saturday night. Me and my roommate were both asleep when we suddenly heard someone trying to get in. Just a lot of fumbling at the door and banging.

It woke us both up and we went and opened it. Some incredibly drunk dude was there and started yelling at us to get the fuck out of his room. We told him that this was our room, but he tried to force his way in, so we held him back. We pointed to the room number on the door and told him look at the number, it couldnt be his room. It took like 2-3 minutes to get him the calm down and start walking away (we were able to determine he was on the wrong floor, as each floor looks identical). We shut the door finally, only for him to come back another 2 minutes later and start the process over again, only he was a bit more aggressive this time.

We never felt in danger, it was just annoying st the time (and then funny the next morning once it was over). Me and my roommate were both bigger than the other guy, there was 2 of us vs just the 1 of him if he ever were to get violent, and also he was incredibly hammered, so we never felt like he was a threat. But I f he had a gun, it could have ended the same way that this Texas situation ended, without question. Of course, I dont think the cop was drunk - she just panicked in the worst way possible.

That's a terrible comparison, but to roll with it a welder doesn't go home expecting to weld; similarly, a cop doesn't go home prepared to encounter danger.

I guess the difference here is that she didn't go home.

Speaking of bad comparisons.

I've been fucking blackout, high-school drunk, and I have still never entered the wrong house or even stood outside of one, regardless of how similar it looked to my own.

It's sheer incompetence, this is definitely manslaughter but they should release her name though. They'll hire this idiot but they won't hire a veteran of [insert branch of the US military here] who has more experience that could be applied to the police force. Maybe it's time for a change and start hiring veterans instead of some rando guys or gals off the street,

It almost certainly will not be considered murder, as she is a cop and therefore not fully responsible for the use of lethal force. A citizen would have been arrested & charged with murder immediately. She was neither.

Last I heard she was being charged with "manslaughter", as if it was a fucking accident she gunned down this guy in his own home.

Oh I'm sure she will be charged. This dumb ass tried to barge into someone's apartment and shot them dead.

This isn't accidental manslaughter where you swerved on the road to avoid a deer and accidentally killed someone.

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/do-police-kill-more-whites-than-black-people/

Thanks for quashing that bs.

According to the most recent census data, there are nearly 160 million more white people in America than there are black people. White people make up roughly 62 percent of the U.S. population but only about 49 percent of those who are killed by police officers. African Americans, however, account for 24 percent of those fatally shot and killed by the police despite being just 13 percent of the U.S. population. As The Post noted in a new analysis, that means black Americans are 2.5 times as likely as white Americans to be shot and killed by police officers.

I forget where I saw it, but I think someone else did a more in depth study looking just for unarmed people killed by on duty police, and the chances of a black person compared to a white person being shot went up even higher in that case.

"in absolute numbers, more white people than black people are killed in police shootings (because white people outnumber black people in America)."

It literally supported what I said. I made no statement about proportionality and proportionality has no bearing on predictability here. Take a random police shooting and the victim is almost twice as likely to be white than black. Hence, shootings are more predictably white.

The police having a racial bias with shootings due to black people being killed a significantly higher rate proportionally to their population is a different discussion.

I said it was murder before, and I'm sticking w/ that assessment.

Tbh, I figured them knowing each other wouldn't be that weird since they're neighbors. Not saying they would definitely know their neighbor, but it wouldn't be weird. Which is why I thought he would have had no problem answering the door. But being an ex, well... When I was talking about it with her(my co-worker), I was half joking saying she could have possibly easily removed the photos of them together(if any) and could have had a plan on how she wanted to kill him... But, wow... And I never really thought we should take everything she said to heart. Most people would definitely try to find a way to stay out of the trouble, if they could...
