I think the manga version of Sakamoto is a bit better, mainly for pacing reasons. Nothing's drawn out there.

While the pacing is certainly not the best, I also feel like the gag just sort of ran itself into the ground by the middle of the series independent of any pacing issues.

Couldn't really stand more than 4 episodes of Sakamoto, which is a shame. One of those things that seems amazing at first then you realize it has zero substance.

I thought Sakamoto was fantastic.

Apparently the 7 Deadly Sins manga is ending in about a year so if it gets another anime season Id assume it will be the last. If anyone was watching the simuldub of Steins;Gate 0 the girl playing Mayuri left due to scheduling issues.

-Overlord has been consistently great, and it's good to see that continue into S3.
-Chio has been great each week. I think I said that I find it more conceptually funny than anything, but that's been proven wrong, since I laugh quite a bit each episode. It's still conceptually funny, but it has the sense of humor to back that up.
-While AoT did have a weak first episode, the next two were both fantastic. I like that best girl is finally getting some development.
-High Score Girl is great stuff. As someone who never played in arcades, it's really cool to see that era of gaming from a nostalgia-fueled mindset. It's also got some pretty solid writing. Episode 4 felt like a completely different show thanks to some pretty neat character growth. Shame nobody is watching.
-MHA is in the middle of a pretty weak arc imo. Probably the worst since S1. Still enjoy it, but I can't wait until this is over.
-Tenrou had a great first episode, amazing second episode, and has been kinda weak since. Thankfully, we're probably getting back into the action come next episode, which is where the show excels.
-Banana Fish is alright I guess. I'd probably like it more in English, so whoops. Not really much to say here.
-Cells is frustrating. I told Mac that the show has been getting weaker with each episode, but I don't think it's a drop in quality. There's just nothing new happening. The first couple of episodes were great because it was bizarre and hilarious, but they've just kinda fallen back on the same style of humor. There are some funny moments each episode, but it's mostly dull. Quite a shame given how great the start was.
-I was ready to drop Grand Blue if episode 4 sucked, bu it was actually pretty hilarious. First time I laughed out loud during the show, and it happened multiple times! If it can keep this up, it could shoot through the ranks!

I'll watch High Score Girl once it gets out of Netflix jail!

Seeing airing rankings also reminds me, I watched the first episode of Muhyo & Roji's Bureau of Supernatural Investigation (because clearly I wasn't watching enough things already) so I should post comments on that since I did for every other first episode this season. Honestly, my opinion of it is kind of weird. It felt childish, especially in terms of the way characters reacted to things and the morality of the plot's resolution, but at the same time the plot of that episode was shockingly dark and not suited for children at all. The fact that it tried to tackle something serious and did so in such a childish way honestly left me feeling angry for some reason. I hope this is just a case of the first episode being bad and future ones will improve.

Also, one thing I've realized this season is that there's very little middle ground in quality for me. There are twelve shows I would drop if I were the kind of person to drop things, fourteen I'm consistently excited for, and only two that are roughly in the middle.

What I'm REALLY curious on is reactions to every arc past this one from now on, so basically Season 4 and forward. They all have certain things that make them controversial in a variety of ways. All for the better imo but I don't know if everyone will see it like that.

I thought ep 5 of Cells was a lot more interesting than the past few episodes since it actually did something a little different. Apparently the manga actually gets longer storylines later on, but I'm a little skeptical about the anime getting far enough to adapt many of those (it's only one cour, right?).

only the first episode of Cross Ange is considered bad by the people who like it, AFAIK. The last few episodes were the worst part of the series to me.

Ep 5 of Asobi may have been my favorite yet. Of the very few anime I'm watching, definitely my AotS right now.

For Grand Blue, I've heard it's a pretty bad adaptation. Will probably just skip it and read the manga eventually.

I finished Yona of the Dawn. I thought it was good for the most part but I had too many issues with it for it to really become a favorite. Usually I'm a fan of comedic moments in the style YotD used (dropping to simplified art-styles and the like) but this ran into the same problem The Ancient Magus' Bride did with that same gag style. I felt it often clashed with the serious tone of the surrounding scene and wound up dragging it down instead of being funny. Like, moments after being ambushed by an overwhelming force isn't the time for a chibi gag joke when the subsequent battle is going to be deadly serious.

Still, that was a minor complaint overall. My real issue was that the story didn't get as far as I wanted it to. This feels like something that I could wind up liking a lot more if it gets a second season but I'm not sure how likely that is. Like, the whole season was one long recruitment mission and it ended as soon as it seemed like it would finally get back to setting the groundwork for overthrowing Su-won. I wanted to see Su-won get murdered, damn it. Just marry the princess and become king that way you idiot, no amount of trying to make him seem competent or cute after murdering his king for no reason is going to make me like him.

In conclusion, Yona of the Dawn was good, but in terms of fantasy settings starring a girl with red hair, I enjoyed Snow White with the Red Hair a lot more.

I've got a feeling that there won't be many more weak arcs left. I agree that all of the ones since the current anime one are flawed but I think they're all solid and all help advance the plot and characters. My biggest gripe is that a lot of more minor characters (and even some major) haven't really gotten what I feel they deserve in terms of screen time, which is a shame since the side characters are one of its biggest strengths.

Yeah... It's definitely not what I was hoping for. It's alright, but nothing exceptional, just read the manga instead. It's pretty damn good.

oh I still love every arc there's been in HeroAca. I meant that they just all go for different things so I'm not sure how the general public will take to them. I think every arc past this Provisional License one is stronger than the Provisional License one.

Yea I could see the gripe about minor characters (my boy Tokoyami STILL has no backstory or proper arc to his name despite being one of the more major supporting characters) but they also introduce some of my favorite characters in the series in the more recent arcs. (Hello Fatgum and Hawks) And with a cast as big as they have there's always gonna be some people that get left out unfortunately

Hell yeah, I feel like the School Festival arc was partially for Jirou but I don't feel like Mina has really had any moments. I also want to see more of Tokoyami, who has my favourite quirk. Maybe we'll see him with Hawks, since he said he interned there for a time? I want more Momo as well, I felt they were building her up to be a major supporting character similar to Kirishima, but she's gotten sod all for a few years now iirc.

yea it's a bit up in the air, my original thoughts of where it would end were kind of scrapped by the Season 3 soundtrack coming out and having song titles of "Mirio" and "Overhaul". So they might introduce/tease those two things at the end of the season before fully kicking into them next season.

I started watching this live action Japanese series on Netflix called Switched. Its apparently based off a manga about a fat girl who switches bodies with a hot popular girl in her class. Its not really anything special, but its amusing watching live action performances that still feel like anime characters

Spoilers for up to Hunter x Hunter episode 71. Man, that was a hype-ass dodgeball game! When the guy who summoned Nen beasts got taken out and they said his remaining beast could come back in if he recovered, I was really hoping his gorilla would return to be the hero in the end. I mean, just imagine it, they've all been hit and the ball is about to hit the ground, all hope is lost... and then a big dumb gorilla materializes out of thin air and catches it. It would've been great. Still, I guess Hisoka pulling a cool move to win even though he didn't have to was neat enough.

Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of Bomber since he seems too stereotypically evil, but I'm enjoying this arc so far. Bisky is the best, and the way they're using game mechanics has been really interesting. I liked the luck dice with a 1/20 chance of death.

the other day, my fiancee had the idea to watch all episodes of my hero academia season 3 in one sitting. that was intense. the camp arc was really great though.

also slowly been watching some summer stuff...

attack on titan - seems like nobody's talking about this much. not as exciting as the first two seasons but really interesting so far.

grand blue - caught up on this, it's definitely gotten better.

cells at work - watched two episodes of this. it's good but it seems like it's going to get repetitive really fast. hopefully it changes up the formula or I might not finish it.

angels of death - yeah that's gonna be a no from me dawg

Greed Island was my favorite arc in the original HxH (it's the last arc in that one). Everything that happens there is just so much fun, and I really do like the video game mechanics gimmick (when it's handled well at least).

A.I.C.O.: Incarnation. It definitely isn't the popular choice and I acknowledge that it has problems but the sci-fi plot and the characters both really appealed to me.
