Okay, as promised from earlier, here's a picture of my figures. The reflections off the cabinet's glass actually weren't too bad now that the sun isn't shining through so I lazily left them all in there. I mean, it's not like I was going to get a high quality photo of them no matter where they were.

Top Shelf: Back row- Yuki from School-Live, Lightning from FFXIII, Rikka from Chunibyo. Front Row- Kaori + birds from Your Lie in April, Lightning again.

Middle Shelf: All nine members of Aqours. Front row also has Squid Girl from Squid Girl and Inami from Working. Those two usually sit on the top shelf but from the angle they would've blocked Yuki and Rikka so I moved them.

Bottom Shelf: Back row- Rin, Honoka, and Nico from Love Live. Middle row- Pikari and Teko from Amanchu on the outsides, Kasumi from BanG Dream in the middle. Front row- Yuki Yuna from Yuki Yuna, Tomoko from Watamote, Index from Index.

The Lightning bust thing is from 2016, everything else is from November 2017 or later. I am really bad with my money when it comes to collectible stuff like this!

I don't mean to flood here with my figure purchases, but while we're still on the topic, this kind of proves my point about how I'm bad with money for stuff like this. I just ordered this AKB0048 Nagisa figure because all this discussion spurred me to check if there were any decent ones available for some recent anime I enjoyed.

Some anime figures look cool, but theyre expensive too. Not that it matters when you dont have money anyways, but still a lot of them are more expensive than consoles and thats just crazy to me

Nah, for a lot of the ones on this board, once customs and shipping are included its closer to $80-110 I think.

Consoles are a good deal higher than that.

Collections are more expensive sure, but those get built over many years.

The only figures I'd ever consider are JoJo. I almost pulled the trigger on a Jolyne a while back. If they made a Foo Fighters or Gyro figure, I'd buy in a heartbeat.

More episode one thoughts:

Happy Sugar Life was really good! Still, this definitely felt like an opening episode where they didn't want to get too crazy. I have high hopes for this now that the premise has been introduced and they won't feel the need to be so coy about it. I also enjoyed how it had fun moments alongside the darker ones, hopefully they can keep that balance instead of veering into grim drama like I'm afraid they might. I want fun yandere (which this episode thankfully embodied, imho), not pure yandere horror.

Grand Blue Dreaming was... uh... certainly not what I was expecting! I go into new anime with almost no info beyond a title and one or two images, so I thought this might be a relaxing Amanchu-type diving show. Yeah, nope. Not at all. In fact, this seems to be a mixture of a bunch of hectic/lewd anime tropes I've never really liked. Still, I'll give it a few more episodes and maybe it'll turn me around on them.

Lord of Vermilion is the chuuni show of the season, I guess. I have no idea what's going on and I'm not sure that I care. Still, a few of the aesthetic choices in the fighter's costumes and their weapons were neat, and maybe they'll make things a bit clearer after a few episodes. I'll stick with it for now.

Nice, they all look good! I wouldn't mind owning higher quality figures of 's but I can't have everything and I prefer Aqours so I made my choice. I at least have super-cheap ones of the three members I really liked.

I've got the same Homura as LTM's first pic, I've got an off-brand Reimu that a real life friend of mine supposedly won from a claw machine on a trip to Japan, and a Ryougi Shiki off-brand nendoroid that another friend of mine bought at some convention on the east coast.

I used to also have an Atobe Keigo off-brand Nendoroid, but it disappeared at some point and I honestly have no fucking clue how/where.

If only I had room for a second cabinet! There's actually a bottom shelf not shown in my picture that's currently filled with owl statues/ornaments that I've collected over the years because owls are great. My next move if I buy many more anime figures will be to relocate the owls I guess.

GBD would be an easy drop if it hadn't gotten so much prerelease hype. I'll give it another episode as is, but man was that incredibly unappealing, and not for any reasons I expected. The only smile it got out of me was lighting the "water" on fire. Maybe the anime is just a bad adaptation?

This should be called "explaining the anime" because that's what happens. The main character explains things.

Phantom in the Twilight
I think this is a Chinese show? In any case its set up like a reverse harem with supernatural stuff. The main girl actually seems pretty good. I liked when she was like "I'll distract this random monster while you run". This is another show I don't think is going to be good, but this is probably the best looking Chinese show and I think that this first episode was better than the game king one which people liked but I found kind of eh.

Drop Kick on My Devil
So I like the designs this show has. I think the characters look really cute. That's probably enough for it to get a second episode to see if the comedy improves because you can only go so far with the meat joke.

Angolmois
I think this looks pretty good but like the actual animation is a different story. There is like a lot of closeup shots to hide the fact that they don't really want to animate a lot of stuff in the background. It's somewhat rare that two or more people are in a frame for long when they are both moving and I think the show really draws attention to this at the start. It does ramp near the end but I also think something is off with the actual character designs themselves. This is a hard sell on me.

Shinya! Tensai Bakabon
Tensai Bakabon is an ancient work that is being brought back for some reason to anime form? I don't really know like I watch a lot of anime and know a bit about its history and I only have like passing knowledge about this, and when I say that I mean "oh... I kind of heard about it somewhere." Type thing. Like who is the audience for stuff like this? The first episode was actually kind of good? It's a lot of fourth wall breaking and acknowledging how outdated the show works. The problem is that that works for one episode and that's it. So it would not surprise me if it just kind of flops in episode 2.

Tenrou: Sirius the Jaeger
This is a netflix show so the sub that's out for it is really bad. Like awful. So I don't really know where like the production issues of the show start and where the encode is just fucked up too. In any case this is some sort of supernatural mafia show thing? Honestly it's pretty well animated but I did find some of the voice work to be iffy and I don't know there is like little to really be interested in here.

So straight away it's very obvious about the production value this. Like there are actually multiple things happening in one frame at the same time. Also the American coach has like the best English I've heard in anime. If you would say it was an actual native English speaker I would believe you. I was actually on the fence of like if I was going to pick this up simply because I think that the series overall has been a little too angsty, but now that Haru has basically become not a complete loner maybe they'll be able finally balance comedy and sports stuff.

Not to devalue Roba's collection, but a lot of those look like prize figures. It's probably like half that amount. But hey, I'm not knocking on prize figures. People get what they'll willing to pay for.

In Canadian dollars, the Lightning Dissidia figure was 300, School-Live Yuki was 200 and Yumeko/Kaori were 160 each, so it adds up! Those are my only higher-end ones though. Most of the rest averaged about 50, which is inflated because I got pretty terrible deals on some of those due to rarity since I'm getting into collecting so late. Like, that Yuki Yuna probably isn't worth 80 but oh well, she's my second-favorite anime character and I wanted one of her.
