wolfy42 06/27/18 4:23:28 PM #9:	It's peaceful and quiet, almost no animals, you can be miles away from a road, and find a small shaded area where water collects (I found one once that was like a natural over pass). It is hot, but a dry hot, and it's nice at night. You can have almost absolute solitude while still being very close to civilization, more so then you can pretty much anywhere else (forests etc have hikers etc all the time). Almost nobody randomly hikes into the desert. Drive an off road truck 5 miles out, hike a bit from there, and nobody will ever find your home. If it's a desert with hills/mountains, you can dig into the side, and use camouflage to hide the entrance. Given enough time and money, you can even get a generator out there and set up an air conditioner. Stockpile fuel and you can be set for long periods of time without having to go back to town (Even though it's so close). If there is an apocalypse your probably a bit too close for safety as people spread out and scavenge for anything they can get, but....you could plan for it and set up a way to completely seal/hide your home, and only come out very rarely for the first year or so.
