Shirou just kind of annoys me in general but UBW builds everything up enough that he's manageable

it seems like not so just so you know, he's meant to be annoying in the fate route (the one DEEN adapted.)

really brief version:

fate, he goes all in on his ideals because that's what saber represents and that gives him reason to believe his childish dreams are actually the way real life works. major spoilers - this is basically the shirou that becomes archer.

in UBW, he has rin, archer, and less saber around to ground him and force him to be more realistic.

I won't say anything about HF just because the anime's not complete yet.

anyway, shirou in fate/original anime is definitely obnoxious but when you think about it as part of his character growth, I appreciate the way he's written.

Waver was alright. But Alexander is the best thing to come out of any Fate not called Strange Fake.

I think Kiritsugu is my favorite still out of anyone but eh. I think it's that he hits that Auron appeal to me.

it makes me kind of sad that F/GO refers to all the original servants by their true names. I understand why but it ruins the mystique of the original. I can't be too upset though since it really makes me happy to watch fate become such a popular franchise.

Best Fate Characters overall are Zero's Rider, Alexander. Strange Fake's Berserker, Jack the Ripper, so much better than that shit Apocrypha did. Strange Fake's Caster, Alexandre Dumas. And Strange Fake's Saber, Richard.

I like F/SN Illya quite a bit more than Prisma Illya, though Prisma is great sometimes too.

I do agree with Zea's analysis of Shirou. The fact that there's more than one route is not just for the sake of it, as it's necessary for fully developing his character and its thematic importance.

Though:
F/Z Rider > Sakura > Saber > Kiritsugu > F/SN Archer > the rest, as far as characters go.

I just changed it one day when I saw I had both it and UBW as 10s, and couldn't really justify keeping it that way lol. I do still wish the UBW anime had been two or three episodes shorter though.

I thoroughly enjoyed the UBW anime but there's just something about it that made me give it a 9. It's probably the length, because I also had that problem with it in the VN. Took me about 80 hours to read that a few years back btw >_>

Speaking of Fate, I just found Fate Last Encore on Netflix. Time to watch it and make myself angry because Fate was a mistake.

Ayako second best F/SN girl. Hell I even ranked her in the top 10 I think and almost top 5 of the VN.

Basically Emiya is a low tier Luke fon Fabre.

UBW movie is really fucking awful. I watched it before the show and it almost made me drop Fate as a franchise since I just assumed the VN was unadaptable and Zero was the only good thing it had going. Thankfully the series course corrected my thought process.

Grand Order is good man. Not all of the singularities have a great story, but overall its pretty great.

Like I said, Bokurano is not objectively awful. As a fan of the source material, I PERSONALLY see it as a festering pile of satanic garbage.
