So I finished Fate Last Encore. I think that is the worst Fate Entry I've seen so far. All over the place, over complicated, it had the usual Fate issues of having a boring protag with side characters that barely get anything. Eh. Best part was Nursery Rhyme because it was actually creative and had some interesting ideas going around. But even so, it was still kind of all over and didn't make sense at times.

I'm happy to report that Calamity of a Zombie Girl was an absolute disaster. Like, it wasn't even 'so bad it's good', it was just boring awful in every way. Everything happened as slowly as possible, nothing that anyone did made even a bit of sense, the comedy consistently fell flat, the action scenes were atrocious... man, I could go on. Even the gore and nudity was tame. It was even bad on a technical level. I was using headphones and, depending on if someone was speaking from the right or the left, their voice would 100% come out of either the right or left headphone. The subtitles used 'don't' instead of the correct 'won't' at least a dozen times, among other typos.

Lastly, Crunchyroll says this is 'Simulcast on Tuesdays 10:00am MDT' which makes me wonder if there's going to be more. Despite everything, I actually kind of hope that there is. I want to see how low they can go.

Well what I mean by that is just trying to justify itself. Like "oh hey EVERYONE has these auras but if you focus REALLY HARD you can do all this bullshit!" is like.....come on man. Maybe I've just become jaded as I've gotten older but I feel like most of the time, trying to give explanations for shonen powers just makes me roll my eyes. Like I don't care that's it's this mystical magic whatever, I'm watching a shonen that's what they do!

I might be alone on that though. Either way it's fine, I'm excited to see what ridiculous shit it gets to do.

It's just to give an explanation for why everyone isn't doing it, or why the characters didn't know about it in the first place.

It's just one plot point that in order to use it, you need to have it be activated by someone else (usually). There is no other justification for the existence of nen any more than mana in any generic fantasy.

Finished Katana Maidens. Kinda disappointing ending. The stuff with the three goddesses basically disappeared in the last few episodes, and the last episode was pretty boring in general, focusing on two characters that I really didn't care about. Also fucking Yukina what the fuck she was so bad. They really needed to just kill her off. Yomi dying for her was one of the dumbest scenes in the show. What the hell is even the message there? Why is Yukina not at least in prison? ugh. The second half was basically the opposite of the first half in the most important way. The premise and everything in the first half was pretty mediocre, but executed in a way that you can't help liking it a little. And then in the second half they have this brilliant idea that gets like three good episodes focused on it, and then they just throw it all away. Blah. It kept a few of the flaws from the first half too (they still never changed their outfits (though the one ep with Hiyori new form made her look cool), and what was even the point of Storm Armor? One of the most worthless "upgrades" I've ever seen).

So yeah. Pretty weak show in general. Too bad they couldn't mix the goodness of both halves to make something actually good.

I'm just happy that someone from here actually tried Katana Maidens, even if you didn't end up liking it anywhere near as much as I did. I agree with most of your story complaints, too (Yukina is the worst) but even in the second half I felt the hype moments made up for it. Stuff like the six of them jumping into battle from a transformed Nene, Hiyori+goddess slamming into the evil goddess to save Yukari, Kanami riling Hiyori up and then defeating her as a roundabout way to convince her everything was going to be okay, plus the two of them holding hands at the end... I loved all of that a lot.

Still, it definitely didn't live up to the first half and that was a shame. I didn't expect you to start it so quickly, I was at least hoping you'd go in after my seasonal write-ups having the knowledge that I didn't like the second half as much, but oh well. Thanks for checking it out anyway. 3/10 on MAL at least means it wasn't the worst thing from this year that you've seen!

As a side note, Anime News Network recently reviewed Katana Maidens if anyone else is interested in a view other than mine. The review itself was nothing but complaints but it still somehow got a B- average!

Although they're not really related because super was because they brought in a bunch of new Talent while one piece was because they brought back guys that used to work on the anime pre time skip

The idea of sakuga in OP always struck me as weird because One Piece looking good is still very mediocre. You get hyped because when the scenes get the better animation it usually means those are good ass scenes, those scenes being animated better aren't the REASON they're cool. Go back and look at the end of Crocodile. Scene is pretty damn basic animation wise, but everything else is radical.

One Piece is never gonna really look good, other than movie...4? Was it 4?

Yeah, but my point is that how good OP looks doesn't actually matter because it never really had and never will. One Piece's issue is entirely the pacing being a nightmare, which aggravates the issue of a large run of weak arcs.

Even if they did make it that long it gets breaks between anime seasons so it shouldnt suffer from many pacing issues

The article touches on how oda now will leave things out of the manga specifically for the anime to show instead

I guess well that doesn't necessarily help with pacing it does help with them from catching up too quickly

Bonus content just makes it even worse.

I don't consider a show pacing 1 weekly chapter per episode to even be watchable. Why would they need anime exclusive content to avoid catching up at that pace anyways? If it was one chapter before, that implies it's LESS than one chapter now.

I've watched I wanna say like....10-15 episodes of OP over the years randomly? But I would never be able to do a full watch-through, unless I guess it gets some sort of Kai but even then I doubt they could keep it under like 500 episodes or so right?

Depends on the final episode count. I think they can do under 500 with what's happening now for sure.

The first 250 ish episodes did almost 40 volumes, and it's just in the 80s now.

The newest chapter of the manga was exciting because it was our first time seeing half the crew in 100 chapters. Does this "expansion content" check in on them throughout? If so, that basically ruins the excitement of their return, and is very detrimental to the arc.

What the hell does this even mean? You could say the same about practically every show! The end of Crocodile would've been better if it had better animation, and it would've been worse if it had worse animation. Just like every scene in every show, including One Piece.
