I'm making the topic a couple days early so that anyone who may not realize it's coming up has some time to notice it and check the schedule in case there's anything they don't want to miss. The videos are always saved anyway, but I just want to get hyped for it regardless.

What are you all looking forward to?

A few I'm excited about:

-Metroid: Zero Mission 4-way race (samthedigital, Dragonfangs, john_unfil, CScottyW)
-Super Metroid 100% Map Completion (oatsngoats)
-Halo 2 Legendary (Ranabundana) ... because sure why not? Halo 2 was the shit back in the day.
-Cuphead, All Flags (Regular, Legacy) (TheMexicanRunner) ... I never played the game but heard a lot of praise for it and it's pretty so this should be a fun one
-The Legend of Zelda low% race (LackAttack24, BT, Eunos) .. never seen this category but I imagine it's difficult
-The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (mghtymth) ... I've never watched any oracles speedruns so this should be neat
-Borderlands: the Pre-Sequel! Co-Op Any% (Shockwve, Amyrlinn) ... because co-op speedruns are fun
-Pokemon Yellow/Red Any% Glitchless 2 Games 1 Controller (MeGotsThis) ... um, ok yeah I'm intrigued?

I have work literally every day of this so i wont be able to watch much live aside some super late night and early morning runs.

From what I understand of Pokemon Blue/Red 100% at least is that a lot of the movement is really important for RNG manipulation and pulling off certain glitches. I'd imagine that would still be hard for two people to do at once, although I agree that an action game would be more impressive/fun to watch.

It's a totally fair stance to take to find action game speedruns more impressive. The thing with pokemon is the amount of information the runner has to keep in their head at all times. One person running two different pokemon games at once with a single controller is doubly impressive in the same way that running two different action games at once with a single controller is more impressive than running one.

I'm just curious about the routing and the commentary, honestly.

haven't looked at the schedule but i'm looking forward to cuphead, solely because of TMR.

also, brian sulpher is a gamefaqs user and i think he's running super smash tv. curious about that too.

I'm not a fan of some of the things they've been doing lately

Like, this year there's a case where they accepted a race, yet randomly cut one of the participants because ???

It was submitted as a 4 person race and got accepted as a 3 person race

I watch the guy that submitted, nobody knows why they cut him. I'll have to look back what game it was, but usedpizza randomly got cut from a race that got accepted.

Found it. It was the Mega Man 8 race. They accepted the any% race but only included three of the four.

There was also a lot of solo submissions that also had stuff like "Would also race with X" which is always a nice way to include more people and yet didn't go with hardly any of those.

Between stuff like that and then them suddenly putting up the rule about not telling people why they declined them this year, it was sorta weird.

I'm looking at GDQ submissions, and it looks like usedpizza didn't submit Mega Man 8. GDQ's stance has always been that people can't volunteer others -- everyone has to submit.

Also, GDQ hasn't told people why they're rejected for years. That's kind of how it has to be when there's over a thousand submissions.

Yeah, I'm really interested in this one. The randomness of encounters alone could throw the runs wildly out of sync.

Some people were congregating in the main show room. Was sitting there for like 15 minutes and then someone came up and was like "Attendees aren't allowed in yet, you all need to leave." So we get up and file out. Literally 60 seconds later they "officially" opened the doors and let people in.

I lost a front center seat from this. >_>

There was fun to be found in the cringe, but yes...very cringe-worthy pre-show.

Shantae just had an incredibly close race. Real close in the final minutes, got to the final boss about fifteen seconds apart, and the leader held that lead the whole time until losing it when they couldn't land the final hit. Final difference of time was about fifteen seconds.

He did. He showed his submission page on stream where it was marked as declined.

EDIT: I also believe they never replied to any queries about it, though I'm not completely sure on that one since something about it upset him and he just stopped talking about it.

Just had a drink with the guy who's running gauntlet legends. He's a nervous wreck haha. Cool dude though, we bonded over being low profile speedrunners.

Gauntlet Legends is still more than 7 hours away. If he's super nervous now, it's going to be a very long night.

I asked him "what's the worst thing that could go wrong in your run?", like in a genuine way I mean.

Apparently the cartridge tends to overheat and just crash the game.
