That kinda sucks. There didn't seem to be a sign. And it would also suck if she couldn't ever come back because of it.

What about this is objectionable? The USA had to process her and then wait for Canada to do the same. They can't just let people slide, nor can they just send her back without Canada's permission.

Pretty much, yeah. You need to confirm which side of the border they're supposed to be on.

Really? Did you read the article?

She crossed an unmarked border accidentally and then turned back anyway. Literally nothing was needed from border patrol. At worst they should've given her a quick warning and left it at that. What's objectionable is that they did anything beyond that.

No, you only need to know if they're coming into the US. She left the US already and went back to Canada. It is not US border patrol's responsibility to police people going into Canada. She did enter the US and so what the officers did is legal. It's just fucking stupid and a waste of everyone's time.

They can use common sense and judge the situation accordingly.

We are on a slippery slope nowadays and people are defending things that arent right by parroting that its the law, and equating it as the right thing to do.

Some of the worst atrocities in human history were perfectly legal at the time. When something isnt right it needs to be called out as such. Crossing a border is not a criminal act.

Once when I was 22, I was walking downtown, drinking a beer. Two cops came up and told me I couldn't do that, and that if I didn't pour it out, they'd have to ticket me. I asked if I could just drink it really fast. They apologized, but said I had to pour it out. I complained that I had just opened it, but I did pour it out.

That's how I found out that it's illegal to drink in the street. And the cops handled it exactly as they should have. They were polite even when I was still kind of a dick about it.

She didn't need to find out there was a border by being arrested for 2 weeks after crossing back over it again. This was inappropriate and wrong.

I dunno, I'm looking at google maps and there are signs all over the place. The road and customs agency is right next to the beach.

maybe we should give the benefit of the doubt that she didn't see the sign. the outcome probably would be the same.

I'm sorry, but if someone crosses the border illegally I want them detained and investigated. It is the right thing to do.

If I was near a border I would make sure I was aware of it's exact location for that very reason.

I can't argue with that. It certainly is the alt-right thing to do.

I can't even imagine why they'd have an unmarked border crossing except specifically to catch people accidentally breaking the law.

I have crossed at this location over a 100 times. Where she crossed on the beach and path there is no signs. Unless you know that there is a boarder there you would be clueless.
