No, you only need to know if they're coming into the US. She left the US already and went back to Canada. It is not US border patrol's responsibility to police people going into Canada. Two cops came up and told me I couldn't do that, and that if I didn't pour it out, they'd have to ticket me. I asked if I could just drink it really fast. They apologized, but said I had to pour it out. I complained that I had just opened it, but I did pour it out. That's how I found out that it's illegal to drink in the street. And the cops handled it exactly as they should have. They were polite even when I was still kind of a dick about it. She didn't need to find out there was a border by being arrested for 2 weeks after crossing back over it again.
