My favorite experience was when the rep was pushing for a pre-order of a game for a console I didn't own at the time. It wasn't enough for me to pre-order a game I was interested in(which was semi-mandatory for some titles since Gamestop wouldn't order copies of some titles beyond a 'Pre-Orders, +2' model), but they apparently had some console-specific quota to hit.

It's been years since I bothered to step into a Gamestop for anything.

Based on my own experiences actively shopping from both of those chains, I don't think that's really accurate.

Even if it is, I remember being a kid and going to a Toys r Us or Funcoland and regardless of whether my parents were buying something that day, it was an awesome experience to just be standing in a store surrounded by toys or video games.
It's sad to think kids will be growing up without that now.

They cant compete with bestbuys gamers club unlocked and people sell their consoles and games on facebook marketplace now for more money than gamestop would give

I admit, I rather liked having a place I could physically go to buy my games. Right now I live in a situation where I don't have a mailbox at home, and I'm unsure as to whether or not games or anything else, really, can be bought from Amazon and sent to my P.O. Box.

I'm a traditionalist and still like to buy physical copies of games. Maybe stupid, but there's something about having a stocked library of games that gives me a sense of pride and ownership.

I think the issue is most people have never had that experience at GameStop. I mean, I'm not a super regular customer (Amazon and Best Buy ftw... until my GCU expires, then just Amazon I guess...), but over the last couple decades I've been in my local GameStops plenty of times, and stopped in others when I'm out of town, and literally one time did they get annoying with the badgering about pre-orders and game warranties and stuff. Usually they don't bother at all, or ask maybe one extra question that is easy to say no to.

Not that there probably aren't some employees that are like the one I encountered *one time* but it definitely isn't the average experience.

But yeah as to the actual topic, I hope they pull through somehow. They do some annoying stuff but I like brick and mortar stores to exist, I was actually thinking of signing up for the pro elite membership since GCU is ending at Best Buy and giving them business on a semi-regular basis again.

It's just too bad that actual stores, even gamestop, pretty much never have the esoteric games in stock, especially so for Nintendo consoles.
Mario, Madden, Call of Battlefield Honor: Subtitle Number, sure, but Weird Weeb Game is nowhere to be found.

GCU is going away, Amazon is constantly trying to neuter prime benefits for vidya games, etc...those may have been a catalyst once upon a time for this, but its not even profitable for those stores either. Gamestop had trouble competing with them...they ultimately had trouble competing with themselves.
