That trailer showed like 10 seconds of Kasumi and 5 seconds of Helena. Granted, Kasumi wasn't wearing her usual outfit (looked more like she was wearing the outfit from 5's story mode), but Helena looked like her usual self.

There are something like 30 female characters in that game, until I see what the rest of them are wearing (or what their "physics" will be) I will wait to pass judgement. I mean if you are complaining about Kasumi's breast size, they already reduced that in 5. Besides it was getting pretty ridiculous in some of the games...

This character is a boy that was magically transformed into a girl.

Sure, skip the part when he was banned from his family because of the accident and was trying to turn back while strugling to hide the truth from others, and the fact that his sense of taste got so twisted in the process that he can barely eat like a normal person anymore. Not a fan of the character in particular, but giving half information is a low move.

I'm not a DoA player so I didn't notice the difference in the trailer, but apparently they are intentionally trying to tone down the sexuality in the game.

I don't know if it's Koei Tecmo or the developers but they have been concerned about if the sexuality in DoA would receive negative backlash outside of Japan in the past.

In other news though, Steam says they aren't going to try and censor content anymore, but offer viewer exclusion options so people can choose to not see things they don't want to see. Who knows if they will keep to their word though.

If the only purpose of DoA is to provide extremely weak softcore porn, then DoA is a pathetic excuse for a game series whose primary purpose can be completely replaced by any number of free websites. The Internet exists. You no longer need to buy a $60 game to sneak your hypnoxing material into the house.

as a guy who doesn't know much about the series, how is this censored exactly? I know they were all wearing itty bitty bikinis in the volleyball game, but this is a fighting game? Makes sense to be a little more covered up?

Can someone provide an example comparing what the outfits were previously compared to the outfits now?

Weren't the early trailers for DoA5 similar? And Kasumi there is still busty, and wearing a skin-tight outfit. And there's not much other official word, a couple vague statements, but no other outfits or characters were shown off.

Again, used this way, literally any decision to leave something out would qualify as self-censorship, depriving the term of any meaning whatsoever. Of course they're going to remove things they think more people will dislike than like, just like they'll add things they think more people will like than dislike. You call it censorship, the rest of the world calls it a savvy development decision.

I have been a fan of Dead Or Alive since the original (20+ years ago, at this point), and I find this disappointing. The series has always been a blend of fast-paced game mechanics and sex appeal. If you tone down the sex appeal, you get ... Tekken, but faster (and less juggle-happy), to be honest, and Tekken started sucking for me after Tekken 5 (except for Tag Tournament 2). Granted, DOA has been excessive about this in the past, but I feel like DOA5 hit the right balance, and toning down it from that is catering to a ... certain hostile demographic, one that most likely does not play the games (or any games, for that matter).
