Depends on the game. I could give examples but... it's not a good idea to do it here. Just keep in mind that they exist.

As I mentioned, I've played my share of Illusion games, among others. You don't get much meaningful gameplay out of sex. You can attach a certain degree of interactivity to porn that qualifies as gameplay, but it's nothing I'd want to play if not for the sex that came with it. Even in the case of visual novels, that's sex as a part of the story, rather than any sort of gameplay that sex enables. Sex itself just isn't much of a video game.

Oh yeah I agree with that. Wasn't so much advocating for the torture scene to be censored so much as I was pointing out how I personally respond to different depictions of violence.

Another example would be some of the trials Ethan goes through in Heavy Rain. Felt bad for that dude. But the next day I'm delighted to be stomping demons into pulp in Doom.

I personally love seeing an attractive woman especially if it's a 3rd person game and I have to play the whole game through with her.

I agree with some of the stuff you said, but this still applies to other things such as gore.

You don't need intense violence and gore for gameplay purposes. They could easily tone the gore down in most games and it wouldn't affect the gameplay. Just look at how brutal some of the executions are in the games I mentioned. They could easily replace those brutal animations with less gruesome ones.

The overt amount of gore and violence in games serves no purpose when people can easily find that stuff in other forms of media.
There is a reason people use the words "gore" and "porn" together. (Gore porn)

If they did that then it would be another example of self-censorship.

Yeah. I agree. Everybody knows that violent media makes people commit real violent crimes.

I mean, that is exactly what happens, aside from being more publishers than the artists themselves. The whole "sex sells" thing means publishers try to sell sex. That means tacking on baseless eye candy, in many cases. There are legitimate justifications for dressing female characters sexily (the aforementioned Bayonetta, among others where dressing for sex appeal makes sense within the confines of the character), but there are far more instances where no such pretense is made, and the character is dressed as sexily as possible with no actual sexual element to the character.

Exceptions exist where the artist does actually decide independently to draw eye candy characters for their own enjoyment, rather than to attract extra interest, but game development is a business. Most of the time, it's with the expectation that sexier characters will drive sales.
