If so, what do you typically look for? Been quite some time since I got some lego, but got part of two sets today. One set seems around 99% complete and the other is 60-75% complete. I also look for mtg cards or old games. The cards are pretty rare to find and games are hit or miss as well. Clothing is about the only other thing I might get, but not too often.

Most of my clothing comes from thrift stores. Regular clothing stores sell very little that I would ever wear.

I wear your grandma's clothes. I look in.... Okay.

Not usually. I go about once every two years during the summer to pick up new (you guessed it) summer clothes. I do go to antique stores frequently though, probably every 2 months or so.

Forgot about dvds. It's rare I'll get them from a thrift store though. There's a book store I go to that has them and their selection is fairly decent and in alphabetical order as well. I don't have the patience to look through the books at thrift stores either, since I've yet to come across one where they're actually organized.

Not many choices down here for DVDs. Thrift store, video store, or people selling their old stuff through Facebook (I got a bunch free several months ago through that). I mostly go for thrift store since it is more varied than ex rentals.

I used too but the prices have gone way up and some clearly use eBay "listed" sales as price guides. So lately no I haven't. Same with flea markets. All meh here on West coast Canada.

Shops that sell second hand goods, which are typically donated to them. Like Goodwill or Savers.

Yes. Almost all my clothes come from second hand stores and I have found some really cool stuff. My favorite find is a midcentury modern coffee table I paid $10 for. I wanted to tell them it was greatly underpriced. The cheapest I've seen it online for is $375. This one is in perfect condition.

I usually go for books, CDs, video games, and board games. Unfortunately most of the ones near me stopped carrying anything good (or stopped pricing them reasonably) so I haven't been in about a year or so.

Also, if you have a Salvation Army near you, go there as opposed to Goodwill. Not only because the CEO makes minimum wage at Salvation Army letting more of the money go to charity, but also because Goodwill tends to have a minimum price of $2.99 on stuff while Salvation Army will go as low as $.99 (maybe even lower, but $.99 is the lowest I have seen).

You can get some quality clothes at thrift stores if you spend the time to look. Way better quality then you could get at Walmart and cheaper as well.

Personally I have never done it, but I could see why you would.

Yes, i love em.

I look for electronics(stereos and anything oddball) just because I like to upgrade my system from time to time and sometimes they have quality shit in. ive bought a 5 disc cd changer and cassette player from one, too to connect to my also thrifty stereo.

I also look for CDs, records and other things like that. I venture into other areas like clothes and toys but mainly CDs/media and stereo stuff

I like going there and I usually look at least at the electronics and furniture, but I haven't had any good finds lately. I don't really get clothing there anymore. I used to get a lot of dress shirts and ties there when I had no money but when I started buying those new, I realized my thrift store ones were pretty bad. Also, t-shirts are cheap enough in clothing/department stores that I don't feel the need to get them at thrift stores. They don't seem to sell as many video games anymore and when they do, they price them more like eBay instead of just making them like $3

Stuff like books, movies, CDs and records are horribly disorganized and usually all they have is total shit

I do. Stores selling new clothing are either poor quality materials at not so great prices or good materials at high prices. Thrift store clothing is low prices of variable quality. But generally the better stuff is what I'll be finding in the store, the local ones donate the ripped or poor quality stuff to charities that recycle it.

I've also had used shoes from a thrift store that lasted several months, while a new pair from a low price store lasted a couple of weeks before the bottom sprung a leak, and still costed more than the thrift store. :P

I go to the thrift store once in awhile. I found an old Star Wars Kenner Obi Wan Kenobi in a 2 dollar grab bag of toys.

Plus I find some good books most of the time. Odd stuff like recently Directive 51 book 1 of the Daybreak trilogy.

They were crap shoes. Very thin rubber. Set me back $10, bought only because I couldn't find any used ones at the time.

The used pairs I normally grab might be a little grubby or worn, but they are typically much better quality as well. A pair I paid $5 for would be over $100 new and lasted me a long time.

Also, at the time, I was walking about 10km (bit over 6 miles) a few times a week.

I go every once in a while, but don't often buy anything. I did get my current pair of work shoes at a thrift store, and they already lasted longer than the previous pair I bought and at half the price.

I don't have the patience to peruse the books at the ones I've been to with anything more than a cursory glance. Now, if they were decently organized, it'd be another matter. Though, I can sympathize with them. It not being a book store, I imagine book etiquette isn't something most patrons will bother with and shove things back haphazardly.

Everything at a thrift store requires patience to look through. That's another reason I don't really bother with clothes. There's always a bunch of old stuff for minor events in random counties that you've never even heard of, or jerseys for some player that played half a season with the local pro team eight years ago, but very few nice plain t-shirts

Yes. I kinda got into them after ordering used CDs, etc, from Amazon and seeing the tags from thrift stores on them. It's really nice for buying cheap CDs, movies, games, books, etc. I've bought some shelving at times, too.

tbh, my movie collection wasn't all that big prior to hitting up thrift stores. Now it's kinda at the point where I really shouldn't get that much more.

In general, they're kinda fun just because you find a lot of stuff you might not otherwise discover. It's where I picked up my copy of Ragtime, which is probably one of my top 15 favorite musicals (or possible top 10). And there are also some crazy deals. Among other absurdly great video game deals, I picked up Pokemon White 2 for $3.
