So not like a single purchase that you wasted a lot of money, but something like a subscription or a disposable habit.

I'd have to say food. Obviously I need food, so I justify it to myself that way, but I spend way more than I need to buying crap food. Soda in particular is a big waste, it's like $2 or more from most restaurants nowadays. At least I don't smoke, I guess.

Overall I don't think I have many other wastes. I stopped subscribing to stuff I barely use (XBL, Amazon Prime), and I don't drink as much beer or buy as many games that I'll probably never play just because they're on sale.

I eat out a fair amount, so that's certainly up there.

Video games I have a habit of buying and then never playing. Same with books, so many unread novels.

Do you play them, though? I wouldn't consider them a waste if that was the case. But I guess it's up to each person to decide what is a waste. From my perspective, I'd consider cigarettes to be a waste, but maybe certain people who smoke just view them as another thing they enjoy, just as people enjoy video games.

I almost always check them out for an hour or so to see what they're all about but most of them get shelved for something more interesting. I don't think I finish even half of them, but my intention is to play them eventually.

Games, most likely. I'm pretty careful with money, generally. Whenever I do eat out I don't get anything too expensive.

I also never buy games full price and always try to wait for a deal, but that's probably offset by buying things frequently.

I do eat a lot of fast food, too. Maybe less than I did before, though...

That being said, I have done the whole budget thing before. It can help certain people. But I only did it because I was forced to. I only meet my budget lady once. Then I avoid her like the plague. I saw her once a few years later and she was like, we have to schedule another meeting. I said sure, but never did. It might work for you since you want to spend less on fast food. When I did it, I didn't realy have more or less to spend. The only reason I had any funicular triuble was because I was moving. But still had to pay for 2 places at the same time for a couple months... It's not that hard. But you do have to know all your expenses to do it...

Chocolate and Yu-GI-Oh cards. It's specially funny because people at home ends up eating more than half of the chocolate I buy and I have no one to play cards with but I just keep buying all of this for some reason.
And maybe I could save a little more money when it comes to food, but screw that, if I wanna eat, it has to be the good stuff instead of the cheap one.

That damned American tuition; I must pay about thirteen-hundred dollars per class. The only other thing I pay for is lunch, but that's less than sixty dollars for this semester, anyway.

Come fall, I will spend less than ninety dollars. But I still live with me mum, so that's the main reason why I don't spend much on food or any money on rent.

I have around 95% of my video game receipts, dating back to late-1989. I finally went through them all last year and recorded them in an Excel file. I'm pretty confident that it is my largest non-necessity expenditure. Music CDs would probably come in 2nd.

I (and my wife) make budgets and track our spending. At first it was a pain but after doing it a couple of years its pretty easy. The first year we just tracked our spending in various categories. The second year we made a budget based on the prior year spending. The third year we tried to lower are spending in some categories. Now we have monthly budgets for each category and if we don't use it all then it carries over to the next month.

Food. I end up buying more on sale than I intended. I went in today to get Pillsbury biscuits on sale with free eggs and orange juice. Ended up buying a half-price chuck roast, cheese and sour cream for oven-baked mac&cheese, bacon on sale, hamburger buns, Italian bread, spent $30, intended to spend $5 or $10.

Mac&cheese is in the oven, my neighbor is broiling sirloin burgers to go with it, we'll have a nice little feast for lunch, but I still spent more than I meant to.

Ramen is 25 cents a package.
