WTF are stuff like Crunchyroll supposed to do? You can't make European anime, otherwise it's not... anime.

This is just bullshit infringing on free speech. It makes me glad I live in the US instead of Europe.

Pretty sure the EU cant block ISPs from allowing people to access it. What will probably happen is crunchyroll will stop charging in Euros and people that want the service just pay in USD.
That would probably be a work around for the law

If everywhere demanded 30% content from where they live, you'd quickly reach way over 100%. As bad an idea that this is, though, let's not pretend that the US is immune to terrible Internet laws.

Did you even read the article you posted? "And both VOD and SVOD services will be required to contribute to a fund for European audio and video production, either by funding projects directly or contributing to a group fund"

I think it was pay for a specific channel. But I think it's a channel they have to have. BBC, I think...

But I thought it was a tv license or something, too. It's been a while since we talked about it...

It's a TV license. It pays for the BBC, but it doesn't matter if you're interesting in the BBC or not. You're paying for the license to have a TV at all.

A lot of people don't pay for it, but they do some real weird shit to get them to pay.

What if Crunchyroll's response is to have anime studios hire more European voice actors and the EU deems it acceptable?

Yeah. I remember them saying they did some crazy stuff to get people to pay. I also remember that we brought up France for some reason. But I don't remember why...

Canada is also into bullshit protectionism when it comes to promoting their own content. Not sure why this kind of stupidity isn't slammed more often.

Actually the EU has a lot of great stuff I would love to check out, but it is very hard to get access to some of it without sailing the high seas or waiting 5 years for an American adaption even if the UK or Canada got an adaption shortly after the original came out.

It's bad for all of us.

Remember when Canada demanded their cartoons to have at least have a ratio of 30% domestic? In comes the flood of low-quality Canuck cartoons that nobody likes, everywhere else.

For example. If the Nicktoons channel is still around, there is a 50% chance you'll stumble onto an obscure Canadian show you never heard about, for good reason.

The same will be applied to Steam. Low quality EU games just to keep the demand, and it'll lower the quality of Steam everywhere else.
