I think it's certainly possible Trump had something to do with the (apparent) resolution in Korea. The NK regime really, really doesn't want a U.S. invasion and with Trump in office they're no longer confident that it won't happen. I think that fear (together with the collapse of their nuclear testing site and some degree of Chinese influence) is probably what's driving them here.

Trump being a fucking lunatic very well might have been a significant factor here, but I think it's also something that increases the probability of war. In this case we may have lucked out and have gotten a good outcome, but I'm very skeptical that the expected value of the madman strategy is positive (especially since the worst case scenario is very, very bad, so increasing the odds even a little is very dangerous).

Some laws are subjectively and perhaps objectively worth maintaining the punishment for people who previously broke the laws in question before they were no longer laws.
