I should have done this before lol.

I'm selling my house as it's silly expensive and my HoA won't let me have roomates live here.

I was thinking of just renting, but decided to check out rooms for rent since I got so many good deals for my previous roomates.

A 1 bedroom 900 square foot apartment with 1 bathroom, is about $800-$900 here.

Just had this guy over who is renting 2 rooms in his 2800 sq foot home (both large rooms), for $800 each. It's about as much as I would pay to rent my own place, but much larger over all. This would solve the problem of living all by myself.

Really on the fence about renting my own place or sharing to be honest, and I have months to decide. This guys is just finishing up buying the place and won't be moving in till the end of May (My place probably won't even sell by then). So that works out pretty well.

Do like having my own place/space, but a room qualifies pretty much, also this guy has no furniture so we could use all of mine (Was selling it all on craigslist).

Still not even sure I want to stay in the area, but the nice thing about renting a room is there is no lease agreement etc. I can totally travel if I want later etc.

So I'm strongly considering it.

Then I think about the freedom to live anywhere I want (even NY!) and I have doubts...but I can live here for a bit till I figure out where I want to go etc.

There are cheap places in NY to live, while not in the main city or long island, it would be a quick trip to go there whenever I wanted, and probably anywhere in NY has good pizza heh (and probably good chineese as well).

Food is so important to me, and the options really suck here in Olympia.

Yep, that was the first try, then I rented it out to 3 guys, then the HoA said...."no renters", so now I am selling my house and will possibly live in someone elses instead.

My house is only 2400 sq feet, I was paying (myself), $1400 a month, not including utilities, and just using 1 bedroom.

This house which I can totally move into (as I am a renters dream come true lol), is 2800 sq feet and I would only be paying $800 a month including utilities (Which were at least $150 and with roomates went up to 400-600 range in the winter.

So a savings of about $500-600 a month, and no stress about it being my house and getting messed up etc.

Or I could rent a much smaller apartment of my own, but honestly it wouldn't be that much larger then renting a room, all things considered. It's just like having neighbors in an apartment complex with shared space (living room, kitchens etc)

Still need to see the place, but it sounds really good.

If you like having other people around, go for it. I don't trust anyone and get irritated easily, so I couldn't handle roommates. My wife or my parents are literally the exceptions I'm willing to ever make :P

I don't understand HoAs. It is your house, you paid for it, you are pying taxes on it, why do they get to make the rules? I can understand some things like basic lawn care or trash upkeep as that can spread to the neighborhood, but everything else seems like an overreach.

Going to assume that multiple roommates=more vehicles in the driveway and street and that shit is trashy as fuck.

It is just wolfy though right? So that is one or two cars and one other person would be 3. An average family with a teenager could have that or more. Hell some couples have more than that. I have known a few people with a commute car and a fun car + their partners car.

I'm just guessing. Hell, most people with garages just fill them up with shit instead of parking their cars there so it's kinda understandable.

Yeah cars were not a problem, as I have a 2 car garage, and at most there was 2 roomates with cars living here. Many of the neighbors have more then that.

My roomates were all in their mid 20's to 30's and this neighborhood has nobody under 55 (and I'm the youngest by a decent amount. HoA's are jack and I could probably start a revolution and maybe get it disbanded if I stayed here (next Nov), but it's not worth it honestly and I don't want to live alone that long (at least and not pay this much for a ton of space I'm not using).

I'll either rent my own apartment for half what I'm paying (And have the money from selling my house in savings) or I'll move in with some cool people that I actually like, not have the headache of actually maintaining the place, worrying about damage etc, and most importantly I'll pay almost half what I am now (for in this case a bigger place, just without the amazing view).

The view is what I will miss as it looks out over pugent sound with the lights reflecting off the water at night. I have lived in many places with good views (my wife loved the water), but this is by far the best and I'll never have one this good probably.

That being said, it's not worth $600+ a month to me, or the headaches associated with owning a home etc. Not to mention being forced to live alone!!
