Nanoha's Raising Heart is essentially a buster rifle. Fate's Bardiche is a beam scythe, and her outfit along with that is a reference to the Deathscythe Gundam. Signum's Laevatein is an energy-enhanced snake sword like the weapon the Epyon Gundam uses. Hayate, Subaru, Teana, and a bunch of other characters in the series incorporate beam weapons/attacks into their battle styles. Those two appear in the first season of the Lyrical Nanoha anime in minor roles, but once the franchise got popular and formed its own identity, most of the ties to the VN besides Nanoha herself were eventually phased out. The only anime series I can think of that may have possibly had a stranger path than this to becoming an anime is BlackRock Shooter. Also, Lyrical Nanoha was apparently the very first* non-eroge work that Seven Arcs Studios ever animated.
