Aka, make it predictable as fuck, then all the fans would bitch that it was too predictable. Got it.

I agree that definitely would have been a much better movie.

But also that's basically what everyone expected to happen going in. Granted, I'd rather have predictability than the embarrassing collection of scenes they gave us, but then it'd fall into TFA levels of hate, where people acknowledge that it's a competently made movie, but was too predictable and added nothing new.

Even though they shot this down before the movie was even released, I agree.

Keep Luke Alive.

Again, I agree.

Have Kylo turn good. Rey and Kylo fight Darth Plagueis but lose and barely manage to escape.

No. I'm sick of villains being redeemed just because they were once good. Have a guy who started good but was irreversibly corrupted for once. Kylo's just right for the job, he's already a patricide and tinkering with his backstory with Luke(instead of what we were actually given) can make him even more villainous.

Doesn't matter though because that is exactly what's going to happen in Ep. 9 now anyway. You can bet that Kylo's gonna be a good guy at that movie's end whatever happens.

For the latter part, the role of minorly clashing with Plagueis with Rey but losing and escaping should be Old Luke's.

Then Luke joins them and they team up against Darth Plagueis in episode 9.

Yep, that's the point.

Here's an idea....
Ok, just stay with me...
Obi-wan faked his death and comes back to assist Luke. Darth Vader is resurrected by Kylo Ren through the force. Darth and Kylo have different opinions and a light saber battle ensues. Darth wins by wounding Kylo. Kylo flees. Chewie blows some shit up in the falcon, like BOOM!
Meanwhile, Obi-wan and darth have a second match off, but they both decide that Snoke is the real bad dude and team up with Luke to defeat him.
Chewie is still blowing shit up while darth Vader, Luke, and Obi-wan are fighting Snoke.
It's a hard fight, Snoke seems overwhelmed, but eventually escapes in a tie fighter while the other 3 fight off his guards and a shit ton of storm trooper dudes.
Chewie blows more shit up......and the saga continues

I would have loved if Kylo and Rey were like, "You know what fuck it. Fuck all of this. Fuck this war. Fuck the the First Order, fuck the Resistance, fuck the Jedis, fuck the Dark side, fuck these labels that's expected of us. We're the most powerful beings in the Galaxy."

And they run off together and learn from one another together about their powers rather than being caught up with the First Order and the Resistance.

And I guess the next movie would them working together and growing close u der the radar while everyone else is trying to find them or some shit.

I think just a few changes would have made it tolerable. Fest of all, Holdo should tell the main groups what her plan is, but have Finn and Poe disagree because they'd be easily detected by the approaching ships and trapped in the stronghold, which leads to their side story. Finn and Rose aren't idiots and park somewhere else, the trouble begins when Rose sneaks off to free the slave kids and they're forced to flee with the help of the fake code breaker guy. As for the ending, I think the How It Should Have Ended YouTube video nailed that part.

besides the terrible pacing/characterization/writing/etc issues TLJ had (that are just standard movie problems), my biggest complaint with TLJ was the lack of scope and mythology.

For scope, it didn't feel like Star Wars, more like a disagreement between two groups of people on two ships. There's no scale of the universe, no grand scheme of things, nothing at stake besides people in Ship A winning or people in Ship B winning. For a space opera kind of movie that is a huge negative.

Mythology wise I wish there was more lore for the Jedi order, the Sith, really anything like that. By turning being a Jedi into basically a Disney platitude ("the strength was always in you!" kind of bullshit), it takes out a lot of the mystery, excitement, and connection to older Star Wars movies that being a Jedi had. Tbh in TLJ it feels like being a Jedi just means having the power to move a few rocks without having to physically pick them up.

I wish we had learned more about Snoke, for example. Who the hell is he? How does he have these Sith powers? etc

God I hated TLJ

Reveal he's Darth Plagueis.

Look the movie had problems but "didn't agree with my/the Internet's Revenge of the Sith tie-in fan fiction" isn't one of them.

Anyway, what they should have done was cut most of the film, save the 20-30 minutes that mattered (Luke, Rey, Kylo stuff) and put it into Episode 9. Which I guess would then be episode 8. I get that trilogies make more money but there just wasn't enough story to tell in 8 to make a whole movie. Hence why the major conflict of the story is that the rebels are running out of gas and bad at communicating.

What they should have done is scrap TFA entirely, give us a movie which purpose isnt "lets just do the OT again", and then have a creative team behind the second movie that isnt going to piss all over everything the first movie set up.

TLJ is bad. It tries to be dark and serious, but all of its attempts at complexity ring hollow because it never lets its cast face any real consequences. Oh, except for killing off a bunch of faceless Rebels that literally nobody cares about. Despite its theme being "failure", they still end up winning at the end. Except for the climax, they consistently make TFO look like clowns. And every real "failure" is the result of something stupid like invalid parking, or two grown military adults acting like petty high schoolers.

But even that might be overlooked if anything Abrams "dick in a mystery box" movie got to resolve anything interesting it set up. "Who are Reys parents?" Dont care who, but they are clearly set up to not be "nobodies". "Why does Rey have visions when she touches the lightsaber?" Due to the lack of time skip, Kylo's promised training gets thrown out the window. Knights of Ren? Who?

Oh, also remember that Rey's Mary Sue problems come from an overlooked plot point. After she aced the dogfight in the beginning, she admits to Finn "I didnt know I could do that!" Her sudden force powers are the "awakening". But, like most things Abrams set up, arent addressed.

Luke Skywalker's arc is also unsatisfying. This is the last time we'll get to see Mark Hamill reprise his role, and "force hologram" is an incredibly underhwhelming power that doesnt deserve the gravitas its given.

And then theres Finn, whose character arc from VII is tweaked and recycled for the next movie. We already watched him "stop running away and think about others". It was boring watching him go through basically the same arc.

Rose wasnt awful, but she wasnt important either and sucked away valuable screen time from literally everyone else who needed it more.

And then there's Holdo, who the movie cant decide is a bitchy plot device or sympathetic leader. And I feel absolutely nothing for her the entire film.

The movie does almost nothing right, because its too afraid to make its themes mean anything, and doesnt want to respect the setup before it.
