I was pondering this last night while I was "enjoying" hours of insomnia.

There is so much potential in the many states that they haven't explored yet. Let alone somewhere else in the world.

I finally settled on Florida. Irradiated beaches, broken down tourist traps, bombed out retirement communities, swamps.

Florida already has giant toads, imagine gargantuan mutant toads. Mutant giant constrictors. Mutant alligators. Enough said.

What do you think would be a good Fallout setting?

I'd like to see a place that actually IMPROVES because of the War... like Northern Canada, or Alaska and the Bering Strait

That would be interesting, though there'd still have to be something terribly wrong for it to be a game.

Maybe an isolated land mass or series of islands, like Japan, the Philippines or Indonesia.

An island would definitely be interesting.

Oh man, the fucking abominations that could exist in irradiated Australia... That's a great one.

I was totally pondering irradiated snow. I was thinking like Minnesota, but anywhere that snows would be a whole new ballgame.

Jesus Christ. You thought radioactive Australian mutant creatures were bad, wait until you see what those dirty Cajuns mutate into.

And maybe a San Diego region for me? Mainly so youd involve Mexico because Id like to see how everything ties together (Im fuzzy on my lore right now) and I dont think you could get away with a straight foreign setting due to immersion issues.

If they got feel right, though, I think Hong Kong or Tokyo would be cool.

Hawaii would be great. Honolulu could be hit but the rest of the islands are fine. Save for mutated life and everyone reverting back to tribalism. It could start off with you part of a NCR task force traveling to Hawaii where you get shipwrecked and find yourself a stranger in a strange land. Having to learn a new language, and dealing with a isolated group and everything else.

The whole time I was there a couple years ago I kept thinking it would make a good Fallout setting. But it would take someone to make a really nuanced understanding of the place. Something Bethesda probably couldn't pull off but Obsidian could.

Another choice would be Seattle.

My first thought about Hawaii was that there would be a buttload of http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Cram_(Fallout_4) there. :P

Also very weird that gamefaqs isn't turning that entire thing into a link and leaving off the last character.

Not sure how I would feel about a Fallout game set anywhere outside of the US. 1950s americana is just so ingrained to the personality of the series.

An annexed Toronto or something might be interesting though

Tbh, Fallout would be boring if it was set in a location that wasnt the USA. Its a game thats full of American patriotism and folklore. Setting it in a post-war China would be like setting Red Dead Redemption in 1910 England.

idk, given the Cold War overtones, setting it someplace in the old Soviet Bloc might be interesting. Granted, I guess there woudn't be as much recognizable campy propaganda, etc.

They need a change in terrain tbh. FO3 was Washington, so it's an urban setting. FO:NV was Nevada/California, that means desert. FO4 was Boston and other nearby areas, so it's the Commonwealth, colonial structures and stuff.

The Florida idea is fine, since it would allow them to implement something that hasn't been done yet, which would be pilotable boats and airboats, hence traveling over large lakes and rivers. Not thrilled about Alligators, since there are already geckos in the other games. Poison spitting toads would be fun though.

Have a faction of Cubans running around, killing Brotherhood of Steel troops with Machetes and shit. Make them the new Legion lmao.

It's full of that stuff because it takes place there. If it took place elsewhere, you would see propaganda from that country. There are many civilisations with much richer and deeper history than the US. The story was that China and the US were in conflict over oil in the Pacific, just after the US had harnessed nuclear power. If a situation ever arose where an allied country went to war, especially with nukes, then all the allies would be involved. It would never be just an exchange between the two initial countries. So it would be nice to see, at some point, at least some in-depth story explaining how the other countries were involved.

Like I said, setting the game in a country that isnt the USA would break the connections the game would have would its predecessors, in addition to not including established lore from the other canon games. The Brotherhood of Steel, Vault-Tec, the Enclave, Caesars Legion, the New California Republic, the Commonwealth Minutemen, etc are all integral parts of the previous games. Trying to make Fallout game set in another country without these any of these throwbacks is just silly.
