You must be insane if you think being blind is in the same ballpark.

Vision is far more useful than sound unless you're a musician or something.

I think I would rather be blind even though as pj said sight is far more useful. I think I'd go actually crazy if I never heard anything ever again.

Deaf. I know a little sign language already, and text makes communicating pretty easy. At least I could feel the vibrations of music. And then there's always the possibility of getting a cochlear implant.

Blind isn't even a consideration. Losing my hearing would affect my quality of life only marginally. I know basic ASL and could learn it quickly. It would barely affect my job performance.

Going blind would incapacitate me completely. People my age do not adjust well to losing sight. I would be unable to do my job, unable to do any of my hobbies, and unable to tend to my most basic needs for months until I adjust.

Dead for sure. I want to enjoy life. Losing my sight would prevent me from enjoying my life at all. Losing my hearing wouldn't 100% cripple me but it would still be pretty major.

That was not a typo, btw.

I understand that perspective. If I had to choose, I'd go with deaf. I depend on sight for far too much. I'm not sure how well I would hold up without the spoken word, without music, without audio cues around me. That sort of sensory deprivation would probably weigh on me very quickly. I suspect with my depression, being anything less than a "whole" person would drive me into incapacitation.

Being blind would be really hard. It would require a significant change to my entire lifestyle and I wouldn't be able to do a lot of things I loved to do. It would not be easy to overcome.

Being deaf would be easier but I would kill myself. I'll pick being blind. Having sound is more important for my sanity than having vision.

Being deaf would suck, but I feel like there are more tools available to work with it. Being blind would make virtually everything in your life far more difficult. Id easily give up hearing if it meant I could still see. Not being able to see anything would be hell

Getting from place to place would be far easier when you're deaf than when you're blind. Just getting around your house would be difficult when you're blind.

And playing video games blind? You can pretty much forget it. Pick a game up, close your eyes, and try playing it.

Are you sure? People treat blind people like infected zombies, they wouldn't really want to talk to you.

If you're deaf it's basically the same as if you didn't speak they're language, pretty simple to communicate if you need to, especially with text.

and people don't do this with deaf people?

yesterday i saw a deaf woman communicating with a deaf man on the train (well, maybe the man wasn't deaf, i couldn't tell) - the woman was making all kinds of weird noises while she was signaling frantically and a lot of people gave her weird looks. you might be overestimating how normally deaf people are treated in society.

Not really sure how things are in your country but in urban areas in the US nobody blinks at deaf people. I sit next to a group of them on the train every day and they are super friendly
