I think I may get better responses when I'm not asking people to bash the original.

Basically, which remakes are the best ever?*

*Note: I am thinking of a soup-to-nuts remake, not merely a graphical enhancement or a port that fixes bugs and adds some extras. I want you to think of a game that takes the story/premise of an earlier title and completely changes how they tell that story, for the better.

Examples include Metroid: Zero Mission, Super Castlevania IV, REmake, etc.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana

I mean, all the Ys remakes are amazing, but OiF is the most drastic overhaul, given that the original was a side-scroller that almost nobody liked.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

I wouldn't say it's better than the original but it is damn good in its own right.

I haven't played it yet either, but I want to. It's literally a retelling of Silent Hill- the whole game is framed as the player recounting the story of SH1 to a psychiatrist, so wherever it deviates from what happened in the original game, it's because you're telling/remembering it wrong. Also, IIRC, it turns out that the person talking isn't Harry at all, but Heather/Cheryl, so she doesn't know exactly what her father did back then anyway.

Gameplay-wise, it's rather more different. There's less (possibly no) combat, and most dangerous encounters are focused on running away. And the dark world is ice-themed rather than foggy.

It's not so much a remake as it is a reimagining. The plot set-up is mostly the same and you'll visit a lot of the same locations and meet the same characters as the first but otherwise it feels like a completely different game.

I played Celeste for a few hours, beat level 3, and I never need to play it again.

It's not a bad game or anything, but I feel like I got everything I needed out of it.

The hotel? Yeah the rest of the game is just more of the same after that. It's still good but not like the first 3 levels.

It was unique though. The rest of the game pretty much feels all the same after that, kinda drags.

Oh I did forget about level 5, that one is pretty awesome (except for the god awful 3rd act).
