Just making a third topic because darkx's has terrible capitalization, while Andy's really doesn't take into account the fact that Survivor is the only reality show on CBS that is going to matter after tonight, for the next three months (plus it's the biggest name.) Rather than have a big fight and open old wounds, I'm just gonna start this as a midpoint between the two.

The reasoning is fine. It's just that Survivor is the big dog of the three, and I'd wager that having a specific Survivor topic will draw in more of the fans that don't necessarily watch Amazing Race or Big Brother, both of which we still talk about regardless, but neither of which is going to be airing again until at LEAST summertime. And don't get me wrong, when we get to the summertime, just like the past few months break between HHH and GI, we should have an all-purpose topic, since that's when we're going to have a lot of downtime and a lot more time for discussion of old seasons. But as long as we have a Survivor season airing, it has to take precedence in the topic title. And it should be properly capitalized.

90 minutes, hands down. Two hours is a bit too long unless you have an All-Stars season like HvV, one hour is too short as evidenced by the MvGX/HHH premieres where twists and big events took up too much time that could've been better spent introducing the characters or explaining why Katrina got voted out. Two 2-hour episodes is just the same as one hour, but with the second episode immediately after. 90 minutes gives enough time to introduce any twists, introduce a bunch of characters, and just generally works best.

Also, "in" should not be capitalized, so let's use mine. And part of what I'm saying is that future topics can have just a [Survivor] tag and an actual title. We should just have a constant serial, not a change-by-whatever's-airing thing, like the wrestling and politics topics do it.

Mixing newbies and returnees is never a good idea ever in any show unless it's a one-per-tribe/team format AND the newbies aren't picked to be as incompetent/complacent as possible so as to let the returnees dominate. So basically Guatemala and Philippines.

You could probably call February-November of a Presidential election year a "season," but that's once every four years. And there generally IS a separate topic to follow those.

I know a few people who only watch Big Brother because the "survival" aspect of Survivor is off-putting to them. Two of those are among my best friends from the board. That said, neither of them usually posts in these topics...

...so you do have a point. But I still think we should do "CBSR:T#" or something. I really want to know how many of these topics I've posted in lol.

Can we compromise on adding that as a tag or something in the next one if we use your topic?

Hmm. If we remove "Discussion" from the topic title, that gives 10 characters to player with (plus a removed space), so that could allow for some tags to be added, while still keeping jaunty topic titles.

So while we're talking about what seasons of TAR are the best, my next question is which ones would you recommend as a first season to watch for people looking to get into the show (assuming they aren't stringent on just starting from the beginning and watching through)?

My top 5 picks would be 5, 12, 17, 25 or 27.

Maybe swap out 5 for 22 since those pre-12 seasons are mostly not indicative of what the show is like today, for however much longer it's on for.

I think the reality TV crew on this board is small enough that we all know we discuss all reality shows in the Survivor topics. I dont really think an extra label is necessary, especially one as obfuscated as CBSR:T3.

ok so i have 2 days left on my cbs all access trial. and since i'm pretty much done with Survivor, i guess i'll at least check out BB since i've never seen any of it.

what's the best season? definitely won't end up seeing a whole season unless i end up really liking it and search it out on my own though.

Just watch this Celebrity Edition. It is shorter and it has less episodes than a standard.

6 is pretty universally beloved (I'd say 2 or 3, but the first four seasons are, due to veto rules, completely different from the rest of the franchise).

Two days? Go with this season, the Celebrity one.

If you want a full season, I recommend BB10 as a starting point - it's a very back-to-basics season that's always a great watch. BB6 is also a good choice. My favorite is 7, but that's the only all-veteran season, so you need to watch the first five first (BB2 is the first; BB1 is non-canon).

Thank God this season was short. So we only had to watch the editors and everyone in the house (except Omarosa, who got shit on constantly for dumb reasons) kiss Ross' ass for three weeks instead of the three month slog of Paul's BB19 journey.
