These might be the GOAT end credits oh my goddd

They would be, if Majora''s Mask didn't have the GOAT end credits. (Being serious)

I thought Ganon was a super well received finale. I think that's one of the reasons OoT is remembered so fondly - from the Spirit Temple to the end credits was just a masterclass of gameplay and video game storytelling. Many games stumble across the finish line due to budget/time constraints or loss of artistic vision, but Ocarina ended SO strong.

I never heard of people complaining about the final boss, the whole finale is great.

That moment Link stabs Ganon in the face is the best

I think they also removed/altered some symbols in the game for resembling the Islamic crescent moon.

Yeah the mirror shield was altered

Since you played Wind Waker you might appreciate its backstory now more too

After Zelda sent Link back, there was no more Link in her timeline. So when Ganon eventually came back, there was no Hero bloodline to stop him, so the Goddesses just flooded the damn place instead and started over.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time beaten 20 years later. I've been hearing for years that OoT was the "greatest game ever made," and its rivalry with FFVII is what brought me to this board in 2004, nearly half a life ago.

This is the (weekend) eve of my 30th birthday, so it was pretty fitting that I am closing my third decade out with the game that had such a formative influence on so many users here in their youth. It's quite hard for me to articulate the bittersweet wistfulness of this feeling.

1998 was the year that I really got into gaming, which looking back probably formed the basis of the person I am today. I was brought up on Final Fantasy VII, and even to this day if I hear the music or look at certain screenshots of the game, I can transport back to the first time I played it and recall the exact feeling of excitement, discovery, and wonder that it gave me. I imagine that Ocarina of Time gives that same feeling for those who were brought up on the N64. It's perhaps fitting, then, that the themes of returning to one's youth pervade the game's narrative; and I'd be lying if my heart didn't swell up at the final shot of Young Link meeting Young Zelda at the end of the credits.

This was my way of transporting back to my youth as well before I enter the decade in which I am getting married and will likely have kids, and that feeling of wonder and discovery will become harder and harder to recapture. I am glad this is the game that was able to take me there for one last ride.

10/10

I've seen people complain that the last two fights are "too easy."

Interesting!

I have to say that WW Ganon > OoT Ganon

That one is one of the best final boss fights ever

Alright, the dust hasn't settled, but I absolutely adored this game to the point that it's reshaped my to 10 games ever. This could obviously change still.

New top 10:

10. Sid Meier's Civilization (PC)
9. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
8. Xenogears
7. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
6. Metal Gear Solid
5. Final Fantasy VI
4. Mass Effect 3 (patched/full DLC version)
3. Chrono Trigger
2. Super Mario Bros. 3 (**subject to change, as I've never actually beaten every level and I need to play through it again**)
1. Final Fantasy VII

So it looks like OoT bumped the ever-fluctuating trio of GTA: San Andreas/Resident Evil 4/Mass Effect 2 out of the top 10. I think I'm okay with this list.

As much as I love OoT, and how much it shaped my childhood and life and the universe, I'm not even sure it'd be in my top 10.

Hell, Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda and would be in my top 10, despite that being a more adult life opinion.

I certainly did not feel that way as a kid, game freaked me the fuck out

Glad that you liked it!

I played FFVII for the first time ten years ago and had a similar experience to what you just did. OoT will always be by childhood baby, but I was blown away by and immediately loved VII.

And yeah, if you can squeeze the time in, I BIGLY recommend Majora next. The N64 Zelda duo are, in my opinion, the best any series has ever been on a single console.

I'll get to Majora's Mask at some point, but I can't do it right away. Zelda games are hard for me because they require sitting down for several hours at a time, which I struggle with these days due to work and social life. I think I will spend the next few weeks unlocking everything in Brawl since that can be done with a 10 minute playthrough every day >_>

Brawl? Why not just skip ahead to Smash 4? I like Brawl but 4 is better in every way.

I also played FFVII late and loved it. Old maning again but they dont make games like this anymore.

That's a tough one because they're so tied into the location rather than standalone tracks. But probably Gerudo's Fortress for the sheer adrenaline of it.

The title screen song is hauntingly good.

I admit that may be nostalgia though. I distinctly remember firing the game up for the first time as a kid and getting the feeling that something special was starting when I saw the title (not surprising, considering how hyped up the game was, and long we had to wait for it come). Seeing Link ride across the field, with that ocarina playing... thinking back to it always puts me in a good mood.
