Those were setup eps, helped build up the cast.

A lot of great shows do start out slow, there's just a huge a variety of paths that lead to the end result being a good product.

I would say something like Steins;Gate is another show that started pretty slow, but it helped solidify the cast and made you care more once the big stuff happens.

...oh and I guess it also applies to a lot of Gundam shows I ended up liking too!

But yeah slow starts can be a mood killer for any medium, but it's not necessarily a bad thing either.


I don't really think any of this is true. Being early on is no reason not to have great content. It'll often just be a different kind of content. I thought the first half of SG was great. Had some excellent comedy with Kyouma and Kurisu, though the anime didn't do as well with the comedy as the VN did unfortunately.
