Do you think it's unfair to sterilize someone in exchange for a lenient sentence??

34 y/o Summer Thyme Creel from Oklahoma and mother of SEVEN agreed to be STERILIZED after a federal judge said he would consider giving her a LIGHTER SENTENCE if she did in a COUNTERFEIT cheque case!!

She got the procedue done in November after US District Judge, Stephen Friot in June said she agrees to be sterilized, meaning she can no longer have kids, then he will factor it into his lenient sentence for her.

She's a mother of 7 childen from different men and admitted drug user who already gave up parental rights to her 6 kids after Child Services showed she failed to protect her children from harm.

Summer has a lengthy record including theft and counterfeit cheque writing charges and plead guilty to a single count in a federal grand jury indictment for an alleged counterfeit ring that stole information from mailboxes

She plead guilty to using a $202.22 counterfeit cheque at a Walmart in 2014.

The judge noted that she likely took crack cocaine and meth while pregnant as well.

So he said if she chose to present medical evidence that she was sterilized and rendered incapable of procreation, he will give her a lenient sentence...Summer voluntarily agreed to it

A prosecutor however is arguing to the judge not to give into it and said it should be irrelevant to her actions

Do you think it's unfair to ask someone to be sterilized in exchange for a lighter sentence? let's see what people think

Given that she's only 34 yet has had 7 kids -- none of which are in her custody -- I think it was a good deal.

We need some kind of genetics control sooner or later, unless you'd like nature to take the wheel again. Right now we have none.

Eventually humans will evolve to breed like rabbits and throw the kids in the dumpster, because that's the most successful way to pass on genes right now. It's evolution. Dumber people recreate more.

Intelligence is nurture over nature. Some of the dumbest parents have the smartest kids and vice versa. Also, wtf are you talking about?

Do you honestly believe that?

You can't nurture an orangutan into being a scientist. Children are simply mixed copies of their parents.

It's as simple as use it or lose it. We are using nothing but the ability to sexually reproduce.

Sex offenders already have chemical castration as an optional punishment. That's a lot stronger than just a sterilization procedure.

Well, it's certainly *one* reproductive strategy. However, investing heavily in a few children can yield better long-term outcomes since breeding like rabbits ensures that some won't live to reach adulthood let alone pass on their genes.

Not even remotely true. While nurture plays a role, natural potential can massively vary where intelligence is concerned. And it's *very* rare for the dumbest of parents to give birth to a genius or genius parents to have an idiot child (excluding birth defects). You can't look solely at outliers and think that it's the norm.

And, of course, keep in mind that more intelligent, successful parents are more able to nurture a child to grow into an intelligent, successful adult so even arguing nurture within this context is facetious unless you intend to separate all children from their parents and raise them in some neutral environment. Because, without that environment, the children of druggies and alcoholics are far more likely than the general population to grow up to be druggies and alcoholics -- especially if they were introduced to those chemical in their fetal stages.

I will never understand why we take children away from terrible people but do not also immediately ensure that they can't have more children.

I would like to point out though that at least here in the USA it can be very difficult to find a doctor willing to perform a tubal ligation unless the woman in question already has two or more children (even if they have a medical condition that makes pregnancy dangerous). One of the first steps to preventing people from having pregnancies in a more reliable way would be to make tubal ligation procedures more readily available for women who want them.

My first response to this is that it is fine. A convicted cp user getting the option to be castrated or a habitual drug user not wanting to birth unwanted kids etc, but this case was about a fraudulent cheuqe.

Even if the lady was a drug user that had nothing to do with the case. So we have a judge deciding someone in his court shouldnt reproduce and used his position of power to strong arm her by having her choose between years in jail or having kids.

In the hands of a corrupt judge this kind of power is terrifying.

Genes mutate, how do the bad mutations sort themselves out in the United States? They don't. Evolution turns into randomly generated genetics. Completely unsustainable.
