After the Rain is a nice show. I really like the two leads.

And yeah I don't think there's many anime out there that are going to match the style/creativity in a Yuasa work no matter who is producing what. (Though I do agree based on what I've heard Netflix had a major role in this specific anime being made)

I'm glad Netflix got involved in anime, it means we get stuff that can't exist because Japanese audiences don't go for that sort of stuff. We know there are talent in the anime industry that are itching to do stuff other than the industry's current moe/waifu boner.

Netflix is good for content they fund, but bad for content they license. Hopefully companies that let them license their work don't give them absolute authority like holding broadcasts hostage.

Cutie Honey is getting a new show this year, but that's just a regular TV anime from Reed by the guy who made Photo Kano, all stuff I have zero connection with. Already iffy on whether I can care about Cutie Honey without Gainax, but I'll wait and see what it looks like.

Yeah I'd mostly agree with that. Though at times I feel like it's less Japanese audiences won't go for it and more, Japanese studios don't have the funds to do this.It just makes more sense to spend your money on something like say My Hero Academia than try to remake ANOTHER re-imagining of Devilman. That story has received takes from so many hands in both manga and anime form.

So when are we getting Netflix budget levels adaptations of Pluto and Billy Bat?

There was never any point where the idea of Amazon produced Anime came up, and I can't personally think of any Amazon original series that have ever struck my fancy. Still, always a possibility.

Amazon needs to do a better job of advertising that they have anime to stream. I didn't even know they had Kabaneri last year until I saw it on a torrent site. They should probably try to get stuff that Netflix also has like the Fate stuff (if that stuff isn't exclusive and on Harmony Gold level of stupid).

Netflix definitely got their foot in the door and they are funding projects that make sense. Stuff that has a prior fanbase, stuff like Castlevania. Amazon just wants exclusives for the sake of it even if they aren't very good.

I don't think Anime Strike being a paywall was a big deal if they had a huge selection to choose from.

Anime Strike being a paywall was only an issue because it's a double paywall and still requires Prime. I had to give my roommate my credit card number to put on his Amazon account in order to stream it.

Though if I'm them, 300m for The Grand Tour makes more sense than a bunch of anime shows.

caught up on Burrito the Next Dinner chapter 20

it's not half bad, Burrito and Salad are great. their switched roles was a nice twist. hoping to see Orochimaru and Kakashi in the future.

the only downside to all this is that whatever happens they always have a safety net for the main trio because of so many strong legendary ninjas from Konoha

I just finished episode 1 of Dragon Maid. I only knew about the blonde character and basically nothing else about the show so I wasnt expecting the other female lead to seem like a 40 year old man. The visuals are nice because vintage KyoAni. Seems like ok stuff so far

2nd episode was pretty cute. These scary dragon animation parts make me wish KyoAni would go all in on more action and stuff though. Maybe horror too. Like those parts have stood out as the best looking so far and in a way it almost feels like KyoAni is wasting their talents on slice of life.

At a conceptual level this is a really good romance story, but they just can't let an episode end without the weekly dose of sexual assault can they?

I'm not going to talk about the direction Citrus goes, no real way to do so without spoilers.

I will say that I'm glad that they're treating the assaults as very much a negative thing in the show's presentation. That's how it's meant to be, but it's so easy to imagine a shit scenario where it gets all flowery with whimsical music during those scenes.
