It's not particularly surprising considering Republicans were willing to handwave child molestation (i.e. Roger Moore). Anything that attacks their brainless patriotism matters more to them than these things.

The trouble is when they start complaining about the act of protesting and not what is being protested about. There is literally no more polite way to protest than this but people will still tell you that it's inappropriate and should be banned.

Pretty much just as discussed here. If these people raped or beat their SO in the middle of the game and on camera itd be the most widely discussed incident in ages. If these people complained about civil rights in their bedroom with only one person present and was treated as a secret (just like these peoples actions) nobody would give a flying fuck.

Its almost like people seem to forget that the kneeling is done EXCLUSIVELY to bring attention to an issue, and then they complain that its getting attention. And if people were to kneel and no one noticed or cared, theyd still claim that them being ignored has something to do with racism.

Whatever reaction the attention whores get, they can spin it in their favor. Its that simple. Genius really.

Right on the money

Pretty much.

NFL players committing crimes? No problem. NFL players speaking out against white police officers' ability to beat up, shoot, or kill black people without facing legal consequences? Grab the torches and pitchforks. The fans boycotting and the owners trying to shut down the anthem protests are all hypocrites, and likely racists too. They just want to watch the modern-day equivalent of gladiator combat from their high horse without caring about the safety and rights (including free speech) of the competitors. Then they try to change the argument into "disrespecting the flag" to skirt around the actual issues at hand, police brutality and non-white people being treated unfairly.

And I both agree and disagree with this too. I understand the issue of people complaining about how the protesting is occurring and that most people dont acknowledge the issues at hand. But in the end of the day, thats Kapernicks fault.

When Lebron James and D wade chose to speak their mind on the issue, they did it while they were on stage and had an audience. They spoke for a minute about the injustices many people face today. Their message was simple and clear, and did not offend anyone, perhaps unless they were racist.

On the other hand, Colin knew he sucked at his sport and had no opportunity to try to use his own influence like Lebron had, having been called upon to be a presenter or host at an event or something like that. Therefore he chose to do it during the anthem because thats one of the few times hed be able to reach many at once. The problem is that the anthem will ALWAYS be a touchy subject for many Americans. He had zero regard for those hed upset, not because of his message (because people being upset with his message is a good thing), but for the time he chose to protest.

I myself am a minority and agree that there are issues at hand that need addressing, but I will never side with Kapernicks actions. There are a billion other ways to protest, and not offend those who you have no need to offend. He didnt do it to bring attention to the issue, he did it to bring attention to himself.

I don't know about "polite". It's an extreme disrespect to the nation to protest something like the anthem all because of one issue that happens to occur within the country. You don't protest the entire country you live in unless you're trying to start a revolution. He sees the country itself as a symbol of oppression and that's what people take issue with.

You don't protest the country itself unless you're intending to start a revolution.

The founding fathers gave us the tools to revolt if the country becomes tyrannical. That doesn't mean they'd always side with those revolutionaries.

Given the optics of seemingly protesting the flag, the target of his protest was a poor tactical choice. If you notice, all anyone seems to talk about is whether it's disrespectful or not. He should have anticipated that. It's obscured his message. People hold the flag and anthem in a very special and sensitive regard. Perhaps I could be persuaded otherwise, but it doesn't look like this form of protest was necessarily well thought out.

If the rules were codified it would indeed be horrendous. That said, I'm not arguing that. I'm arguing that, from the perspective of implementing tactics for a movement, this generates too much poor PR and obscures its intended message. During the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. King was very disciplined and focused with respect to how he came off and how protests were communicated to the public. I think he demonstrated savvy that Kaepernick lacks and could learn from.

If an NFL player beat his wife on the field before the game, I'm pretty sure there'd be a stronger reaction than what we're seeing to kneeling. It's not surprising that people get pissy about something that happens during a game on TV vs. something that some random player did on his own time. If Colin Kaepernick took a knee before we went to bed at night no one would give a shit.
