Do you think women should be allowed to have an abortion if their unborn child has down syndrome?

Republican Governor and former 2016 Presidential Candidate, John Kasich has BANNED women from wanting an abortion based on a diagnosis of DOWN SYNDROME!!

Ohio joins other sttes with strict legislation on abortion that cleared the GOP led legislature with some Republican opposition and now it is CRIMINAL for a doctor to terminate a pregnancy based on Down Syndrome.

Down Syndrome is a genetic abnormality that causes developmental ddelays and medical conditions such as heart defects and respiratory and hearing problems.

If a doctor performs the procedure, they will face a 4th year felony and a doctor's license is revoked but pregnant women won't be penalized

His actions was a victory for anti-abortion group Ohio Right To Life which argued which will prevent discrimination based on "misinformation" as Mike Gonidakis said "Now that the Down Syndrome Non-Discrimination Act is law, unborn babies prenatally diagnosed with Down Syndrome are given a shot at life"

Abortion groups said this was another blow to women's constitutional right to legal abortion as Pro-Choice Ohio, Kellie Copeland said it does nothing to support families taking care of loved ones with Down Syndrome but exploits them as part of a larger anti-choice strategy to make all abortion illegal.

North Dakota and Indiana passed similar restrictions

Do you think women should be allowed to have an abortion if their unborn child has down syndrome?

Seriously. I read a bunch of articles about how Down Syndrome is essentially eradicated in Iceland because pretty much every woman that gets tested with a Down Syndrome positive result gets an abortion.

Now, I know that some people with Down Syndrome can live almost independent lives with little assistance but some are totally disabled and dependent on others for care until they die. There's a big range between. And you don't know the severity until it's born.

I don't see why if your baby has a potentially totally disabling disease or syndrome you would want to subject them to that. It doesn't make sense to me.

Yes, they're also big on infanticide rather than just abortion. Given that it might not show on a test, the extra (arguably barbaric) measure really helps to cut down on the overall number.

Jewish people aren't mentally handicapped or physically disabled to the point of total assistance simply because they're Jewish. This comparison is so off base and offensive.

That's your opinion. Just because Donald Trump has banned the word "fetus" from the CDC doesn't change the fact that a fetus is not a baby and most abortions take place in early pregnancy.

Democrats say the Republicans are the anti-science party, but it's the Democrats who believe that unborn babies aren't alive, a man can become a woman by putting on a wig, and the world is going to end because Al Gore says so.

No one says they aren't alive. Of course they're alive. The argument is whether they have independent rights before birth. They aren't even sentient. They aren't able to live independently without a host body until late in pregnancy. The debate is whether their rights supercede the mother's rights.

Fetal stem cells are vital for scientific research for a lot of potential medical breakthroughs. If we already have the necessary evil (evil to some) of abortion, why shouldn't make something positive out of it? Is it the profit motive that bothers you? Because I can agree that if that happens and is proven that it could be questionable.

Eh, you could actually argue in favour of aborting Jewish pregnancies in Nazi Germany based on the exceedingly poor quality of life they'd be expected to face, which is fundamentally the same justification typically used for aborting fetuses with serious genetic diseases.

That's largely an effort to get away from the logical extension of the title "pro-choice," which would be that those with an opposing viewpoint are anti-choice. Both pro-life and pro-choice were so named for the implications they had for anyone that opposed them (anti-life and anti-choice), since people prefer underhanded emotional appeals to well-reasoned arguments.

The better solution isn't banning abortion of Down Syndrome babies, but to help parents raise such children. Help change society so that people with Down Syndrome aren't seen as burdens, so that parents wouldn't want to abort for that reason. Banning abortion doesn't fix the root of that problem.

You've got to remember that most pro-lifers don't actually give a crap about the life that baby has once it's born. "Pro-birth" would be a more apt title.

Uhh... Let me rephrase this now that I'm fully awake and not suffering from a massive headache.

"Pro-choice" and "Pro-life" are both poor terms. The latter is the misnomer I explained in my original post, whereas the former is believed by Conservatives to mean "Totally getting an abortion when I have the chance," not to mention that the Supreme Court case everyone likes to point toward mainly actually said that abortions should be an option to those whose health is at risk.

What you need to look at, and I forget the name of THIS case, is the one that defined Health as also involving social and spiritual well-being in addition to physical, mental, and emotional health.

"Pro-Choice" and "Pro-Life" are just terms used by their respective followers to make their philosophy sound morally superior.

Pro-Life: We support life, unlike those "baby killers"...

Pro-Choice: A woman's body is HERS to choose what to do with. No one else's!

In reality, it's more accurate just to call it Pro-Abortion and Anti-Abortion. The only thing up for debate is at what point you consider an unborn child to be human and deserving of human rights.
