seems like a rather easy solution and the cost is no problem since google is one of the richest companies in the world.

Not realistically. They could probably bring it to every larger city, but rural internet users would end up suffering horribly as other ISP's gouged them in an effort to cover the costs of legitimately competing with Google. Bringing Google Fiber to the entire country would be a massive undertaking, even for Google.

Anyone for net neutrality is against capitalism. The people with power over the internet charge more because that's how money works

congressman support ideas they agree with anyway, they also act like they don't so they can get money from companies with their same mindset.

One word, infrastructure.

Not only would the cost of that be several billion (conservatively speaking) to setup in the entire country, but would take decades to do.

Why would the corporation Google be any more trustworthy with this than any other ISP? Then you're in the situation of paying one sole company for the access.

Most notably, in the areas where Google Fiber has been operating, other ISP's have provided similar speeds for similar costs, exposing the reality that they've been deliberately throttling their speeds so they can charge more for minor incremental upgrades, rather than for any technical reasons. Google's certainly done their share of shady business, but as far as their track record as an ISP goes, they've generally been less eager to rip consumers off than others, which is unfortunately pretty rare and commendable in the telecom world. That's a field where collusion to avoid legitimate competition is the norm, and Google bucked that trend.

Mostly, though, it's hard to be any less trustworthy than the major ISP's.

To my understanding as well, internet speed in other parts of the world are notably faster than ours to boot.

Of course, there's this issue. I think it was going to be nigh impossible in Los Angeles County for example since installing the fiber lines underground will be difficult/impossible with all the existing pipes and other lines.

Installing above ground will require building new towers and/or pigging back off other ISPs towers and I'd imagine they'll be hardpressed to share.

they can't.

big telecom isps would sue over the littlest things they could to stop them.

and they're good at it, which is why you don't hear about Google fiber anymore.

Which is ridiculous considering Big Brother stop merges of major companies (i.e. AT&T and T-Mobile) due to risk of it becoming a monopoly but continue to allow some ISPs full reign of a region (i.e. Comcast).

Because people still remember a time 10 years ago when Google was supposedly "the good company" - when their company motto was literally "Don't be evil" - and imply that they were deliberately more ethical than other large tech companies like Microsoft.

Of course, to anyone paying attention, those times are long fucking gone (if they ever really existed in the first place), because Google is constantly doing shady shit these days. But reputations are slow to change, even in the digital age.

So yeah, there's still a lot of rubes out there who seem to have the impression that Google would be consumer-friendly even in a scenario where they have all the cards and can pressure you into whatever predatory situation they might like.

Ironically, a lot of those same people who still love Google will happily shit on YouTube and everything it's been doing for the past few years, yet never seem to connect that to the fact that Google owns YouTube in their brains. Because if there's one thing the Internet is REALLY good at, it's doublethink.
