What are some good exercises or practices that could help me be able to run a mile? '
I tried running as far as I could just to see how far I could get
I got .24 miles in 1:52 (according to an app on my phone)
Took a brief rest and it was hard as hell to run back, only reached .19 mi in 1:42 before my legs clocked out and I was walking

I'm looking at the Naval Academy fitness requirements right now
https://www.usna.edu/Admissions/Candidate-Fitness-Assessment.php
I had a much more in detailed pdf on my computer but it's really spazzing out and I can't find it >______>

but anyway, I need some serious help if I hope to even stand a chance. First and foremost I don't even know what a shuttle run is. And what is a b-ball throw, do you actually have to make the basket? I guess that would help assess precision
I have no access to a pull-up bar anywhere, but could I make a good copy using my closet? it's certainly wide enough but what would make a good support towards it?
As of now, it's been awhile since I seen how many I can do in one go but I'm comfortable with doing 50 push ups and 50 crunches (if that's the same as sit ups)

The thing I'm worried about the most is running, however, that's the one thing I haven't been focusing on at all too much since I started working out

Please give me advice, Nothing would make me happier than getting into this school!

You just need to work up to it.

Pull ups, push ups and sit ups aren't going to do anything for your running.

No, but time skips after the seeing the first day in full are allowed, to the day before the race

I have to ask because I'm truly new- but what's the difference between running and jogging? I get that jogging is supposed to be slower but is there a certain technique to it? Should my movements be different from running when jogging?

no. literally the only thing that'll help you to run is running more. you need to work on your lung capacity and get your legs used to the motions of running. you could do any type of cardio exercise or machine in order to help with your lung capacity and cardiovascular endurance.

This. Also do interval training.

But my biggest suggestion is to not worry about it and maybe apply to something a little more achievable. Like community college, or the boys and girls club.

Oh, I've been thinking about it wrong this whole time, sorry.
So, I don't know the name for it, but that one thing where you get on your back and move your legs in circles as if you're running in air, would that help?

For starters, slow down the pace. A lot. A new runner shouldn't be trying to go at an 8 minute mile pace unless they're already in good shape. Aim for closer to 12 for now and work up.

Nuts. A few cashews, peanuts, pistachios, whatever. Don't need many as they're very calorie dense, but I find it to be the best thing to snack on right before running.

Hmmm... before I take an air Firce PT test, I usually run close to everyday for like 2 months to get ready. We have to run 1.5 miles in a certain time. Usually, i practice by running at least 2 miles, but usually more. Also, always time yourself to see if you are getting faster. I'm not sure if this works, but some people like to do the thing where they sprint a portion of the track, then run/jog a short part before sprinting again.

For food, they say that the morning before a run(we usually test in the morning), eat a banana. Also, pasta(certain type & I don't think it should have certain sauces) was good the night before a run.

In the end, AFAIK, running is the only thing that will help you run any better.

Then don't. Go at a moderate pace for 2-3 minutes, then walk for a minute. Repeat until desired distance is met.

And then from there just increase the amount of time spent jogging vs time spent walking. People seem to be under the impression that if you go running you have to run nonstop. Doing interval running is most definitely an option, and a good one at that. Eventually you'll get to the point that you'll be clearing a mile or two before your first walking section.

that doesn't make them essential to a balanced diet. you can get the same thing from other foods you get from nuts. if someone doesn't like nuts they won't be nutritionally deficient if they don't eat them.

uh or eating regular food? avocados are a great source of healthy fats. egg yolks are a great source of healthy fats. fatty fish are a great source of healthy fats. chia seeds are a great source of healthy fats. lots of food has protein.

just because one food is a "powerhouse" doesn't mean you need to take supplements if you don't eat that food. you really don't know anything about nutrition or diets, do you?

those exercises will help with your strength but being able to run has way more to do with cardiovascular endurance. if you can't run a mile doing situps isn't going to get you there any faster.

ok, yeah, for sure, if tc can't even run a mile the best thing would be to keep running.

Muscular strength and overall fitness also helps though. If tc was overweight, lifting weights could help him lose weight, thereby helping with his mile.

those exercises will help with your strength but being able to run has way more to do with cardiovascular endurance. if you can't run a mile doing situps isn't going to get you there any faster.

ok, yeah, for sure, if tc can't even run a mile the best thing would be to keep running.

Muscular strength and overall fitness also helps though. If tc was overweight, lifting weights could help him lose weight, thereby helping with his mile.

yeah but that's too general
I've been exercising for almost a year now, yet my running hasn't improved since I first started, I must've been doing something wrong
