If you don't need them you should not be using them. Unoccupied or not. For all any of you know a disabled person might turn up and be desperately waiting outside the moment you shut the door.

Are they my first choice? Yes, because I'm a wheelchair user, and have IBS. I can't use the others - which is why people who can use the other stalls SHOULD use those.

I doubt it. Most accessible stalls in my country have keys that only people with disabilities can get, whether or not they use mobility aids, so you'd have had to have some way of getting in there.

Besides which, I wasn't always a wheelie myself. Nor is my sister. I still say unimpaired people should go for regular stalls first. I've seen too damn many people use the larger stall to change clothes or take selfies in a giggling group x_x those are the people who wind me up the most.

You're an asshole if you use handicapped accessible stalls when others are available just so you can have space to spread your legs while you drop your diarrhea off

I'm disabled but I tend to avoid (I don't need the extra space and someone who really needs it can use it) using the accessible stall unless it's the only one open.

I prefer the furthest stall from the entrance, which is often, but not always, the handicapped stall. That's more important to me than the space, or lack thereof.

At my last job I'd always go for the handicapped stall, but I knew that we didn't have any wheelchair-bound people working there.

It's been a while since I've shit in a public restroom, but I'd say I tend to go for the handicapped stalls there too. I guess I'm a scumbag. I don't necessarily care about the space, but it feels like you get more privacy. And the way I see it, stalls filling up is just something that happens sometimes and able-bodied people have to deal with it too. If I noticed somebody in a wheelchair at wherever I was, then I probably wouldn't use it

They're not specifically for the handicapped and, in general, it would be a huge loss of productivity for people not to use them on the off-chance that an actual handicapped person might need one since -- at most -- it entails that a handicapped person would need to wait five minutes which is a far cry from something like handicapped parking although, even there, they often stay vacant unless somebody is illegally parked.

What country would create a stupid policy like that? There usually aren't enough stalls at most places as is, so why would any country have the "bright" idea to close off one?

JSYK, the up-to-date term for us is "wheelchair users", not "wheelchair-bound" (that one annoys a lot of wheelie people). Unless actual ropes/chains/scarves are involved, then you get to mention bondage. ;) (Somebody actually did a photoshoot of that once...)

"Wheelchair-bound" is a term for non-disabled folks to use, tbh, because it looks at chair use from the perspective of someone generally capable of getting up and running around 24/7, who might have broken their leg and be stuck needing a chair for a few weeks, instead of looking at it from the mind of someone who is not using the chair temporarily.

For long-term chair users, our wheelchairs give us freedom we would otherwise be compelled to live without. They don't limit us, not in the way that phrase implies. If I didn't have my chair, I'd be unable to do much of anything for myself.

With it, I can have a comparatively normal life, and even made it to Helsinki for their first (and very accessible!) WorldCon back in August. Without it, I wouldn't be able to get from one end of my apartment building to the other! Do you see what I'm saying?

Sometimes it's my first option depending on if anyone is seated in any of the other stalls...

Usually if it's just me I choose the cleanest stall which usually happens to be the accessible stalls.. they tend to be the only ones a lot of times that doesn't have pee or poop all over them.
But I will also choose a stall that isn't right next to another person. So usually the first stall is not my choice... So it usually goes down to Middle stall or accessible stall. But Accessible stall is almost always the best choice.

most bathroom stalls i've been in have a place to hang your coat on the back of the stall door.

Yeah, it's pretty much a last resort for me. Can't think of many times when I've needed to go so badly that I've had to use one although, back during a power outage, I was making use of public facilities.

At any rate, just happy I was born a man since I'd hate to sit on public toilets to pee.

i've had to. working in places where public restrooms where all that was available it was inevitable. I used to work construction though, and i'll take a public stall over a port-a-john anyday. at least where I worked they didn't service the things often enough. and one house I was working on, had to share one with a black widow for about 2 weeks.

I read somewhere the middle stall was. but due to the fact most people believe the first stall is, so they choose that one. the belief apparently comes from people believing the average person wants to be as far away from the entrance to bathroom as possible so no one hears them shitting. idk if that just pertains to women's restrooms or not though as plenty of men don't really give a fuck if someone hears them shitting/farting

if you want the cleanest. just look at them I suppose.

I'd believe that, someone cleaning the bathroom would do a good job at the closest things and by the time they get to the last they're probably just doing a quick job or something.

It depends on the venue.

Pubs/clubs/bars/whatever I would prefer to use the 'accessible stall' simply due to the number of dirty bastards that decide they want to have a shit and then proceed to block the toilet by adding too much TP. Throw up all over the place and not tell anyone, and what's becoming more and more frequent people shitting and missing the toilet bowl leaving their lil' brown package perched on the toilet seat (this has been marked up to an Eastern European thing since the majority squat rather than sit)

depends I guess. some people might start from the back and work to the front. I did when I worked fast food, but at the same time I didn't half ass any of it. (then again that place had decent customers that didn't make a mess of the bathroom either)

That rarely works in my building, only one urinal and two stalls. I don't work at a big enough company where we would have a row of stalls.

Never used the disabled stall.
I might if all other stalls are occupied and there's a line and I still felt the need to go.
I know from stories disabled peopled pretty often find their stall (the only one they can go to) used by a non handicapped person who could've taken one of the many regular stalls. I don't want to be that person.
