I was thinking of buying a Switch but outside of Zelda and Mario I have no idea what's good for the system. Also since Persona 5 came out I have given 0 fucks about other gaming titles that have been released so if anyone has a good run down of that stuff for Switch/PS4/PC that'd be awesome to hear.

My most played game this year after Persona 5's release has probably been Diablo III and Final Fantasy Record Keeper, I think it is time I sink back into some gaming for the winter.

If you want to dump a lot of time into a game, you could always get the new FF14 expansion. If you haven't played the game before, you can download a free trial that will let you play the game until level 35, which is a sizable way through the A Realm Reborn story.

I tried that but couldn't get into it, perhaps it warrants a second look.

I really liked FFXIV even though I was casual in my skill level. I got through a few patches of the expansion before I stopped. This is a good idea.

You could get really into a roguelike. I recommend Risk of Rain or FTL.

Kamiko is a really good, cheap game on the eshop (only $5). It can be beaten in under an hour, but you have three different characters to play through the game as. And they give you completion times when you're done, so you're encouraged to beat your best times if you want to replay it.

Depends on what type of game you're looking for.

Traditional JRPG - Trails in the Sky
RPG/Action - Nier Automata
ARPG - Tales of Berseria (or wait a week for .hack//G.U. Last Recode)
Visual Novel - Steins;Gate
Zelda - Zelda

I also very strongly recommend FTL, though it's pick up/put down enough that it'd probably be more of a change of pace between whatever else you pick up here.

I've easily cleared 1k hours in that game over the past few years, though most of it's not in steam so I don't have an exact number

Hollow Knight is a very meaty Metroidvania, and has two additional (free!) expansions that came out after release with another on the way. not a bad suggestion.
