When I click the link I just see the $80 edition on sale for $68 and the Vita version on sale for $46. The standard version doesn't appear on either page for whatever reason

I might have to pull the trigger on Disgaea 5. I hate buying digital when I have the option to get a physical copy, and I've been searching for it for awhile now, but Best Buy and EB Games don't even have any copies left, and it's $65 on Amazon. $20 is a great deal.

Also UDG is quite a bit better on PC gameplay wise. It's still not great but its worth 10 dollars. Mouse aiming does a world of good.

Really though, they're..... good overall. DR1 is kinda bad, but once you're in the right mindset after that, 2 through V3 become much easier to swallow. And they're also much more well written.

as i've gotten older, my tolerance for typical anime fanservice has eroded. hard to take anything serious when it's shoving upskirts and cleavage shots at me.

saying the first game of a visual novel trilogy is bad doesn't inspire any confidence either!

It doesn't have all that much fanservice, really. I was just being smug. In the first game, I can really only think of one gratuitious scene, and it's a blatant choice as to whether you want to see it or not.

Doesn't make that game any better, though. It's not fun to play, but it IS fun watching the story unfold and trying to piece together the mysteries.

Slightly more in-depth:
It's just that the game (and the series as a whole) likes to take copouts for answers a whole whole lot, so if you hate having to suspend disbelief for some truly grandiose bullshit, you're probably better off steering clear.

DR1 is fine, it's just vastly inferior to it's sequels.

DR2 and DRV3 each have a character that's the "fanservice character". In DR2 it's awful and awkward when it happens, though not very common, and you kind of have to like the character in spite of that if you like them at all.

DRV3's fanservice character is....a gift from god. One of the greatest characters in the whole series. There are no words, really.

All 3 games have 1 or 2 optional unlockable fanservice scenes that can be ignored.

I'm still playing V3, on Chapter 5 right now. I still prefer DR2, but it's fairly close. I think the cast in general is stronger than DR2 though DR2 retains its claim on the best character. I also preferred the cases in DR2 so far.

I have finished V3 and this post is accurate. The average DRV3 character is noticeably better than the average DR2 character. 2 is higher highs, but also definitely lower lows (Speaking strictly about the cast. LtM is right about the balance of the story itself).

The ending to V3 is enough to put it over 2 for me, but 2 is the more balanced experience. Lots of quality of life improvements in V3, though. Even walking around is 100000 times better.

I would also say that while there are a couple...well, 1 character I actively hate in V3, the cast has a lot more potential overall. Even the ones I'm not a big fan of are baseline more interesting than characters like Teruteru amd Hiyoko.

This except chapter 4 is where it spins its wheels and 2's ending is way better than V3's which is just shy of abyssmal (but still worth playing through).

It was REALLY hard to not hate V3's ending though. It's so bad as to almost be unreadable, whereas 2's was phenomenal.

V3 has the best ending of the series by an incredibly wide margin. Let's stop talking around it, really the only thing DR2 has over V3 is that 2 has Nagito
