Not like pet names from a girlfriend, but cashiers I'm buying stuff from and whatnot. I totally get where women are coming from with unwanted compliments that men tend to think aren't a big deal (although this is kind of a different situation). It's not like I think they're hitting on me, but I find it so disrespectful. I'm a 26 year old man. Granted, I may not look 26, but I'm also obviously not ten years old, and I'm not sure it's acceptable to talk to somebody like that beyond that age.

Do any of the other guys here experience this? What do you think?

I don't like it when guys I don't know, guys working at the airport or car fix-it places, call me honey or put their arm around me to walk me out or something. I'm not a little girl.

Doesn't both me, I get called all of those things by waitresses and cashiers, at this point in my life I barely even notice it. I did find it kind of odd when my 17 year old cousin called me "hun" though. I am twice your age, WTF?

I gotta say I agree. I understand it is just their way of speech and they are not trying to be offensive, but it still irritates me, especially when it is your boss doing it and they don't stop after you ask them to.

put their arm around me to walk me out or something

That would drive me insane- as a male I don't generally have to face this. Once in recent history I stepped into the volleyball court the substitute for a player that I didn't know. This player then immediately gave me a handsy pat of the back and rub on the neck. I can understand it was a comradery thing that I like in team sport, just a little odd that this was the first time I'd ever even seen this person in my life.

You are obviously not 26 if you find those trivial compliments to be a serious matter. You are immature.

Are you like gonna punch the cashier if she calls you, "zebra" when you are wearing a striped t-shirt?
Seriously, if that's what you feel like doing or is actually gonna do, then you really gotta grow up dude.

Disrespectful? Where are you from? Which country?

In some countries, it is normal and a common thing for waiters or waitresses to call their restaurant customers names like "hey pretty girl" or "aunty" or "handsome guy" or "uncle" opposed to referring them to "mister" or "miss". And likewise, you call the waiters and waitresses, "pretty lady" and "handsome guy". They like it better than being called, "hey, get me something" or "dude, bring that over".

Certainly, I would be annoyed if my significant other calls the waiter "handsome guy". Likewise, if I call the waitress "pretty lady", my significant other would be pissed and shocked. I wouldn't do it and I do not like it when my significant other does it but I am aware that this is a common occurrence in some places and that I shouldn't over-react over trivial matters.

My relative often calls me "doggy" and I find it offensive because the political keyword "dog" in some countries refer the person as being an individual that commited treason and must be executed. Even when my relative denies it being political, it is no doubt derogatory. It is certainly disrespectful and offensive. And no doubt, this is different than you being called "sweetie, hun, babe".

I ofter refer male strangers as a "sir" and female strangers as a "miss". Formal and respectful. ^^

Oh you would hate Yorkshire in England then. We always say "love" or "duck" when it comes to members of the opposite sex. It's just others being friendly as far as I'm concerned and it doesn't bother me at all.

Guys tend to be like "mate" or "sir" when talking to the same sex. I admit I like the later.
