You really need a good mixture of all the things in the poll for an online multiplayer game.

Balance - Games should be decided by skill, not character/loadout selection
Community - The people you play with can make or break a game
Content - There needs to be steady supply of new maps and challenges
Gameplay - It's actually got to be a fun game to play
Netcode - Too much lag can ruin the entire experience

You could say balance just because you need a balance of all these things for an online game to be good. But the balance option is specifically talking about gameplay balance.

i've had fun on online games with shitty netcodes/servers shitty communities, shitty balance, and not much content (not all of those at once though)

so I voted gameplay, that department has to be amazing as I don't care for online gaming in general. but I can deal with any of the others being subpar or in some cases even crappy.

I mean for awhile I had lots of fun with For Honor, but i'd get booted (or opponent would) from a match like 1 out of every 3 matches. I still had loads of fun though.

another way to word the poll to make more sense in the way you went with this would be "which of these options if horrible would ruin the game for you the most"

yeah but your bashing the poll for not having a pretty much "all of the above" or similar option. polls just asking whats personally top of the list for you. and gameplay obviously takes the cake with most cause if the game isn't fun the rest can be perfect and it'd still suck.

read my OP. I said one part or two can suck and as long as the gameplay is solid it will still be fine.

so that wouldn't really be a balance of all the options still.

I mean hell most online games are proof of that, as a lot of the most played games have very shitty communities.

I actually completely worded that wrong cause I misread what you put. But it's still correct in that if gameplay is the only good thing about an online game it won't have a long lifespan.

well still my point being only the gameplay has to be "good" for me, as long as the other stuff is "ok", and maybe one thing can be bad. perhaps two if the gameplay is really good

the only other thing that can't be utter shit to me I guess is connection. cause if you can't get through even one match or whatever without a disconnect then there is no point in playing, and if its a super laggy mess then it saps the fun out of the gameplay. actually played a fighting game once and the lag actually go so bad both me and the opponent stopped fighting and just did random shit on opposite sides of the screen until the lag slowed up to a more acceptable level.

meh. street fighter 3 thirdstrike had a decent online scene for awhile and it never had DLC or new content added. hell IIRC correctly they wouldn't even rebalance the game they left it completely untouched other than improving the netcode at one point.

yeah you still have to buy the game as far as i'm aware, but I knew what he meant. not many MMOs that are worth a shit don't make you pay a sub as far as i'm aware. but I suppose whats worth a shit is personal opinion

For the categories, I literally just copy and pasted what they had put in the poll so I'm not justifying anything about cash grab DLC.

But that said, there actually does need to be a steady supply of content to get. Note that doesn't mean an over supply or things that are pay-to-win. Even if you have a healthy amount of maps on launch, people will get bored of those maps in various times. It also depends on what kind of game it is. Also, I'm not sure why they didn't include content like skins in their category...

I actually had a friend who cheated a trial out of the new character class it introduced. he didn't get the expansions new map but he got to keep the character. basically it would drop you off in the new map and you had a time limit, and unless you where good at leveling up super quick it was unlikely you could get back to the base games map, but he had been a long time player and knew how. it actually let him keep the character as said.

All of those are crucial except for new content. There are plenty of successful online multiplayer games that lasted years without updates, deep gameplay and one great map is all it takes to maintain interest.

Updates aren't really only content. I get what you're saying though. I think now there's two types of updates,

updates - bugs and balance nonsense
content updates - cosmetic items and maybe different play modes

Which is why I think most games now have patches rather than updates. Cause a patch basically has both types of updates in it.

as I pointed out in another post though, ive seen a game with moderate online success with virtually no updates/patches, dlc or anything of the sorts, only update I ever heard about just made the netcode better or something along those lines. so once again gameplay proves to be the most important factor. no new content, and the game wasn't exactly balanced (and they never tried fixing it) I can't speak for the community much because I kept my mic turned off, but I did get my share of hate mail

even with balance and stability a game can suck if the gameplay is just boring as hell. where as unbalanced games can still be fun, though you'll have to deal with annoying people always playing the same character. but something tells me you'll get that even in the most balanced of games just not as much.

got so tired of seeing ken in SF 3 thirdstrike I rarely would play him despite being my best character.

odd though in what online fighters I have played. the most over used character generally isn't used by the actual best players. such in SF 3 I mentioned the guy ranked number 1 always used ryu, but the best I played in terms of skill was a Oro player.

if I game is horribly unbalanced though it can ruin it. there was a reason why gill in most private rooms on SF 3 was banned. oddly where he wasn't banned though most people didn't play him. it was like a unspoken rule that it was just a dick move.

edit: or maybe just most people didn't have him. game didn't make it clear he was unlockable through in game means. though you could buy him for a dollar

I'm just going to use the Graphics card I have right now which is that GTX 960. For these other parts, I know that I want at least an i5. I don't want to spend more than $200 on a CPU. I haven't done any price checking though so I don't know how much I actually need to save.

I play BF4 all the time and only got the game post DLC, I've played years without "new" maps and I don't get bored. As long as there's decent variation of maps and different match ups. I also got Dark Souls at release and still play it online, the DLC detracting from the game if anything.

People get bored when balance is poor so there's only one "right" way to play. When balance is solid, you don't need new content all the time, just opponents who play at your level.

Balance and Gameplay is most important to me, It has to remain fun and balanced, Overwatch for example has abandoned these for me, I used to have fun playing it, now me and my brother haven't played it in weeks, if not a month or two now, it just isn't that fun to play and is more of a headache creator now.

And lets not start on how their "Balancing" is catered more to the competitive tryhards than listening to what the casual fans have to say.....

She would just laugh even more lol.. Seeing that her favorite game is Animal Crossing, she hasn't played a lot.
But my son definitely takes after me, he clogged the toilet this weekend.. Luckily my my mother-in-law dealt with it lol.

well that would work for me. but many times in my life i've had to go lengthy periods of times without any new games or just buying older games from a bargain bin. MGS V was actually the first fully priced game I had bought in 5 years
