Updates aren't really only content. I get what you're saying though. I think now there's two types of updates,

updates - bugs and balance nonsense
content updates - cosmetic items and maybe different play modes

Which is why I think most games now have patches rather than updates. Cause a patch basically has both types of updates in it.


as I pointed out in another post though, ive seen a game with moderate online success with virtually no updates/patches, dlc or anything of the sorts, only update I ever heard about just made the netcode better or something along those lines. so once again gameplay proves to be the most important factor. no new content, and the game wasn't exactly balanced (and they never tried fixing it) I can't speak for the community much because I kept my mic turned off, but I did get my share of hate mail
