This is one of the weirdest, most deranged things you will ever see in your life. It's hard to even describe or talk about it. These demonic babies start turning the world into some post-apocalyptic nightmare world, there's a really disturbing monstrous pregnant lady apparently creating them all in the middle of a city, and sacrifices on the hero's side are being made in fashionable anime style. While the babies are really creepy in the cutscenes, facing them in gameplay looks even worse, coupled with the environment making a very bleak scene. It all ends when this little boy seals the pregnant lady and all the babies in a zone without time. It's really crazy and a little fucked-up, but that's where some of the best horror usually comes from. A definite A+ for creativity.

Katz has always been my favorite villain on Courage. He's never been the pure scariest of them all, but Katz succeeds in being the perfect foil to Courage with a great character design and personality with a real sinister edge to him befitting an evil cat. His plots are often well-inspired by classic horror tropes: the deadly motel, the twisted island, the secret recipe. When you really analyze it, Katz is a psychopath who has murdered a good number of people before conflicting with Courage, especially at his Katz Motel. Coupled with his outwardly charming and intelligent nature, Katz nearly succeeds with his plans every time he shows up. Still, Katz still has an element of humor to him that makes you forget some of the scarier implications to his character. Staring contests and racquetball matches are more goofy than scary. Nevertheless, you can always expect Katz to bring a healthy dose of inspired fear and devious cunning to any Courage installment.

I wish I liked Deadly Premonition more than I do but my god is the gameplay rusty as hell. I'm generally able to tolerate sub-par survival horror games, but Deadly Premonition absolutely killed me with the worse driving and combat mechanics I think I've ever seen in a game that's considered generally decent. Still, I don't want to rag on the game completely. The Twin Peaks-inspired (cough cough) vibe gives the game most of its playability and longevity in the gaming community and I do applaud that greatly. It's one of the most unique beasts in the gaming world, and the kind of game we would get more of back in the late 90s-early 00s. Zany characters like Harry Stewart and the main protagonist Francis York Morgan make the game pop with endless personality. I just can't get behind the actual gameplay portion of the game. The entire thing crumbles because of it unfortunately. I'm still glad it exists and more games need to follow its example and go really creative with it.

and that's just Ending D. Ending E just adds an extra "WTF" at the very end the giant pregnant monster thing and the MC get dumped into fucking TOKYO because reasons and after he defeats it in a game of simon, jets shoot down his dragon....and this leads into Nier for some reason!

Drakengard 1 in general is just fucked up (especially if you don't know the context of the flying apocalypse babies and the events leading up to it)

and its kind of funny how you call them the heroes since its basically a twist on the standard hero party

One is a child who doesn't age due to his pact with a giant golem. His mom is extra fucking nuts who coddled him to an...extreme degree. Oh yeah and he has a sister who is mom was a nutcase too to the point she thought working with giant lovecraftian monster babies was a good idea

The girl is child eating psychopath who lost her womb in her pact.

The MC has a murder boner SO HARD that even his pact partner (the dragon) who absolutely HATES humanity thinks he is unnerving...but hey at least he didn't want to fuck his sister! Oh wait...it was because he rejects his sister (who wanted to bang him) that some of this mess even started!

The blind guy (arguably the most sane person aside from the kid in that group) likes little boys (hence that slight shock when the boy hugged him in one of those cutscenes

Oh yeah and the useless bald dude also sucks

Man it would be great to see that remade with platinum working with the combat

Probably better to watch the story / scenes since the combat is pretty meh but if you want to, go for it.

Its kind of hilarious how everyone in the party (except maybe the cannibal girl I forget) kind of goes "Yo what the fuck dude?" to the MC Like when Caim goes fucking ham on child soldiers. May have been understandable given the circumstances (I forget if they were like the other Empire soldiers) but he gets so fucking into it that Blind Guy freaks out. Caim is kind of a fan favorite I think in the Nier / Drakengard series though

Ending B is also pretty fucked up with the shit that goes down there

This is a pretty weird and trippy opening and it sets the tone for the series quite well. A series of people standing in various backdrops ranging from bustling cityscapes to post-apocalyptic wastelands while they never stop laughing shows a sort of insanity where they're broken in the face of their harsh reality. Some of the darker images in my opinion are the lady standing on top of the building without her shoes and the man standing in front of the mushroom cloud. Things start to make more sense when you realize Paranoia Agent is built around satire of Japanese culture, and suicide and nuclear warfare are two of the biggest problems the country has faced in its society. The theme song is weird too, but I'll be honest, the lyrics are a little abstract and mostly just help compliment the visuals. In short, this an opening that does what it is supposed to do, letting you know what's in store for the series.

The Fear is one of the select few FMV games for the PS2, and usually regarded as one of the best in the genre as a whole. I definitely agree. Boasting DVD quality video thanks to the PS2 and an actual, involved gameplay system, The Fear is an atmospheric joy that's truly like taking part in your very own horror film. Featuring classic J-Horror characters and tropes, The Fear has an admittedly unoriginal concept but places you as the literal cameraman, thus making the experience feel fresh by having you go through the house yourself, focusing in on things in the environment and being very up close with its characters. Thankfully, the acting is very good for a PS2 FMV game and won't take you out of the immersion. The game is a little hard to play though, being never released outside of Japan and lacking any sort of offical English dubs or subs. However those who play are it are in for a fun and actually scary treat.

First off, this is a great song that's coupled with a great video. Story-wise, it continues from the This is Gospel video, but instead of going to heaven and finding love, Brendon Urie falls into hell and becomes corrupted by evil and power instead. The make-up and special effects in this video are simply outstanding, as well as the direction. The jerking camera movement and cracking of bone help make Urie's transformation into the devil seem more real and sudden. The gradual pace of the transformation is interesting as well, showing the corruption of evil in different levels of alterations. I will say the haunted house skeletons and skulls are a little hammy though, and nearly ruin the vibe of the video, but the strength of the full devil form and the beautiful lighting in that scene are enough to give it a pass.

One tiny thing I will mention is that Panic!'s other horror-themed video for Don't Threaten Me With a Good Time would've gotten a way higher rating than this one!

97. B8 Hunger Games XVI: Horror (14 points)

This iteration of B8 Hunger Games was hosted and written by yours truly, and of course it was a very fun way to flex my writing muscles in a fictional setting. I decided to go light with the story because obviously it's just supposed to be a fun romp of death and violence, but I made sure to include some horror elements to fit in with the theme. Some of my favorite scenes to write were anything to do with Jaws because that image of him just jutting his head out of the water for some fireside chats is hilarious to me. The champion of the games was The Collector, one of my favorite horror characters from the past decade, and I actually think the ending was kind of dark. I was very proud of that whole finale scene, and it really amuses me that it was a final girl versus a slasher and it ticks me off that Constantine and Animal Man died off first; they would've been so fun to write for! Coupled with the ridiculousness of characters like the Uroboros Helicopter and Evil Bong, B8 Hunger Games XVI was a blast to write.

The Human Centipede is perhaps the most disgusting end result of the entire body horror genre. It's a sick one-off joke that somehow got turned into a three film franchise. It's Cronenberg without the deftly handled social commentary and politics. It's shocking for the sake of shocking. Nobody goes to see The Human Centipede to see its characters, stars, or story. They go for the god damn Human Centipede, the thing where poop goes out one person and right into the mouth of another. Like any good sequel series, the Centipede of course grows bigger and bigger and more and more disgusting; yet, the bigger the Centipede grows, the less offensive it becomes. As always, subtlety goes a long way. The Human Centipede creation becomes so over-the-top that it loses any edge it ever had. And honestly, I've hated this thing from the start. Sure, horror is supposed to be intentionally shocking and uneasy, but The Human Centipede is more of a Human Uroboros, endlessly going in a loop, conflicted between being scary and being a joke. The Human Centipede is devoid of any true personality or meaning and all your left with is fleeting shock value that will never stick with you.

HIM was a villain that always used to freak me out as a kid. With his unique appearance, various transformations, and voice that could switch from high-pitched to deep in a snap, you never knew what to expect from this devil incarnate. His plots were all psychological affairs, often creating divides between the Powerpuff Girls and driving them absolutely mad. Looking back, it's very easy to see why HIM is so memorable. Not only is his character an interesting gateway into the realms of androgyny and cross-dressing (which can be very hard for children to take in, more easily swallowed in a cartoon), but he's also potentially one of the first versions of pure evil children will ever see. HIM is a character that sticks with you both in a fearful way and in an endearing way and I'm glad he exists for that.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, commonly known as PUBG, is THE game to play right now. With a gameplay lineage drawing all the way back to ARMA's DayZ mod, PUBG both capitalizes on a trend and advances the battle royale genre, inspiring clones of its very own. One quick look at the game and you may think there is nothing particularly "horror" about it, but PUBG capitalizes on the isolation and feeling of being stalked by the most dangerous game. It can be tense looting through a house while you hear someone close by, and nothing delivers a better jump scare than another human player barging in with guns blaring while you frantically fire back if you even have anything to defend yourself. It's this kind of dynamic gameplay that make mini horror stories around a map. I most compare this to a film like Paranormal Activity; long stretches of quiet boredom punctuated by loud noises and quick bursts of terror. I make this comparison both in favor of the game and against it, because at the game's worst, you might never even get that horror-style terror and instead be finished in a few flashes, not even sure what really happened and leaving a very dissatisfied taste in your mouth.

Ultimately though, I like what the game does in general. The player stories that have emerged have been very enjoyable to watch even if they're not all tense, scary, horror moments. After all, horror is just one part of PUBG's toolkit, and more evidence that horror works with just about anything and can pop up in the most unexpected of places.

Luigi's Mansion is a very unique game in the Mario franchise. Besides the educational Mario is Missing!, It was the first game to place Luigi as the main protagonist instead of the sidekick, giving little siblings and the friends who came over to play your NES the starring role at last. In a franchise typically though of for platformers and sports, Luigi's Mansion dares to be different and dabbles in its own version of survival horror, taking place in a very RE-style mansion complete with keys, traps, backtracking, and deadly enemies everywhere. Being a game set in the Mario universe, it's of course a very light-hearted affair, but there's some stuff in here that could definitely give a child some pause and a few frights. The game is very atmospheric and dark, eschewing the usual brightness of the franchise for dimly-lit hallways, grimy basements, and a spooky graveyard. In true Ghostbusters fashion, you suck up the enemy ghosts with a vacuum-cleaner contraption, and it's pretty fun and satisfying while being somewhat challenging. After 12 years, the game was finally treated to a sequel, and I would love to see this franchise and its brand of light-hearted horror continue.

The World's Angriest Boy in the World is a character from a very disturbing book David Haller was read to as a kid. In the book, the World's Angriest Boy cuts off his mother's head after being told to go to bed. In the context of the show, the titular book character manifests himself to David, by generally being a very creepy and psychotic stalker. The boy looks like a mini-Hitler and is usually shot in a very erratic matter in addition to his unique papier-mache appearance, which makes him one of the scariest parts of the show. The World's Angriest Boy in the World is another piece of the very weird and very terrifying puzzle that is Legion and his true purpose recontextualizes everything.

Like father, like daughter. Moira Burton was a fun character to have as a sidekick in Revelations 2, clearly learning how to ham it up from her father, the hammiest character in all of gaming. With an adorable potty-mouth and willingness to survive despite being scared out of her wits, Moira served as an interesting partner to the more self-assured Claire Redfield, who by this point has survived more than her fair share of viral outbreaks. There's also an interesting parallel between the two. Moira strikes me as someone who is incredibly like Claire in Resident Evil 2, showing her sisterly chops to the lost Natalia, thanks to her own experience being the big sister to Polly, a source of great pain to Moira. A traumatic experience where Moira accidentally shot Polly with one of Barry's guns left Moira terrified of guns and her relationship with Barry strained and distant.

Moira evolves throughout the game, helping Claire out immensely and growing into a capable survivor in her own right. Canonically, Moira saves Claire from a mutated Neil Fisher by overcoming her fear of guns to shoot the terrible tyrant and it's an amazing moment for both her character and Claire's, who was in love with Neil. Moira continues to grow when she sacrifices herself to make sure Claire got off the island; taken in by the old man Evgeny (who reminds her of Barry), Moira is trained into a true survivalist under his guidance. In the end, Moira reconnects with Barry and in a way her stranded island experience did her some good, teaching her to stop running from her problems and be a stronger person. It was an arc I greatly enjoyed and made Revelations 2 a good step in the character development for the series.

There's a lot to take in with these Chaos Gods, but I think I got a basic grasp on them. They are of Lovecraftian nature, underlying every emotion and desire of the real world, and these thoughts actually grew into physical beings that continue to feed on their own singular emotions. There are four major Gods: Khorne, the God of War and Battle; Tzeentch, God of Change; Nurgle, God of Death; and Slaanesh, God of Pleasure. These four Gods are extremists in their wants, and only seeking to maximize and stretch their emotional realms to their natural conclusions. For example, Tzeentch is constantly changing, plotting, planning, and to comprehend his goals is impossible and will only lead to madness. Ultimately, the Chaos Gods represent the problems humanity have been battling with since our inception, and like any good mythology, it's our way of putting a face to these grand concepts, as a reminder that these feelings will only grow and grow until the end of the universe.

Who knew My Little Pony could be this dark and terrifying? What starts out as an innocent day in Ponyville quickly turns into Rainbow Dash's worst nightmare, as her friend Pinkie Pie lures her in with the promise of making cupcakes, only for Dash to discover SHE's about to become the cupcake. Cupcakes is told through extremely gory detail, and juxtaposed with delightful dialogue from the still cheerful Pinkie Pie, even as Rainbow Dash disturbingly tries to survive her ordeal and begs Pinkie to stop. The story grows more and more psychotic as it goes, with Pinkie Pie wearing a dress made from the skin of other ponies, performing a twisted stand-up routine with Rainbow Dash's entrails, and ending with the planning of doing the same thing to her other friends. This story will make you wince, feel terrible, cringe in disgust, and lament the loss of pony innocence, yet it's something really unexpected and will catch you off guard just when you think you've seen it all.

Yeah, Cupcakes is THE MLP fic. Nowhere in the fandom will you find a fic more infamous. It also gave birth to a lot of shock fics, many are just as delightfully twisted and grimdarkly edgy. Cheerilee's Garden is one favorite of mine.
