I really liked SoJ! It's a really imbalanced game though. It basically puts all of its eggs into two baskets. The other cases are mostly fine (although one case in particular gets dumped on a lot), but two cases are disproportionately bigger than all the others. They're both top ten quality cases though, so I guess it works out! I do like how SoJ went for a scale in its story that none of the other games have (although DGS2 seems like it's going for something similar, actually, just based on one case). I'm really curious to see how they follow it up.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure why I glossed over it when it came out. I don't really have much affinity for my 3DS (or any handheld gaming) anymore, so that's probably part of it.

I feel like I'm into handheld gaming now more than I ever was since I got my 3DS and Vita. I had a Game Boy, a Game Gear, and a GBA, but I rarely ever played them (and I think I mostly just played the ports of older games on the GBA anyway, like the Mario games or DKC2). I guess it's because visual novels translate so well to handhelds, and I've gotten into them a lot over the last ten years or so. Plus, being able to play older games on the go is nice, too.

I've been to Florida many times, and I enjoy visiting it. I'm not one of those people who considers Florida to be the cesspool of the United States, and I prefer hot weather to cold weather, but I dunno if I could live there all the time.

I mean, the hype train is for Trails the 3rd. But as for what you're doing in FC right now. Eh. If you want to grind EXP or Sepith you have the Shining Poms for that! After my initial sweep of an area I tended to do my best to just avoid encounters unless I had a good reason to do otherwise, like an enemy type that dropped a good quartz or something, I'd let myself fight them as I passed through.

okay yeah that dungeon could have been designed better.

I should be at the end, but that was quite a trek, so I stopped there. Next time we'll (probably) beat the game. It's also kind of inexcusable that they added dungeon warps in Berseria but then inexplicably don't use them in the final dungeon. Made backtracking for the optional bosses in there more annoying than it had to be. I'd also enhance my equipment if there were one around but I'll just go with what I have rather than walk all the way back here. >_>

I wasn't a huge fan of any of the dungeons in Berseria to be honest. Well maybe the volcano one, but not any of the others anyway. I have a ton of praise for the game, but it's mostly for the story/characters and then a little for the battle system.

I don't feel like Symphonia or Abyss really had good dungeons either. Maybe it's just not a Tales thing.

Well, I think I liked Symphonia's last dungeon, but it might have been for the music more than anything.

GTO is a weird show for me. I think Onizuka is a good character most of the time, and I like some of the themes, particularly when it comes to him having compassion and making a difference in the lives of his students, even if it means doing things unconventionally. The show feels kind of meandering at times though and doesn't feel like it has a real sense of direction with where it wants to go and what it wants to be. I don't feel like there are any real standout characters in this show either aside from Onizuka and maybe Kanzaki.

I think I mostly got all the endings in the order you were "supposed" to get them, although I was rotating between like four files at once. I would save every time there was a divergence, and then go back and forth between them until I hit an ending.

I think the only "intended" bit was that you get the worst ending first. Other than that, with the exception of the true end, it's hard to see any intended order imho.

I just discovered this a little bit ago because of SHINE posting it in that FF topic, but I started watching this series of (presumably still ongoing; there are five videos out at present and he's moving at a relatively slow pace based on the first two) videos about the FFVII translation. He goes into some pretty intricate details about some of the nuances and differences between the English and Japanese versions. Language stuff has always fascinated me, and this might be something up dowolf's alley, too (assuming he hasn't already looked into something like this).

Also, while this guy is clearly a Cloud/Aerith shipper (Cloud/Tifa all the way), I think he's right in that Aerith is a very underappreciated character. Crisis Core and Kingdom Hearts both turned her into kind of a pure-hearted innocent maiden, and she's not like that at all in FFVII. She has a cheeky, teasing, street-smart side to her personality (as well as an outright fearless side) that I hope doesn't get lost in the Remake.

Tales of Berseria: Game beated.

Really excellent game. Pretty great ending. Once the Innominat reveal happened, I moved on to figuring Laphicet would become Maotelus somehow. Probably in a "there must always be a lich king" way, so I was right about that, but it still felt quite well done. Didn't see Velvet's plan coming though. Armatized Artorius felt like a bit of a let-down, the prior fight when they were separate felt way more intense, both from a story standpoint and also from a gameplay standpoint. mainly because enemy cast times are so fast on chaos that with a 10-hit guard it's basically uninterruptible. They also had cooler Mystic Artes individually. But I'm just nitpicking here, obviously.

So now I'm on postgame. I did the cameo battle and that was... an adventure. I wasn't really in the mood for BS at this point so I switched to Hard pretty fast... but then I tried to win in max style with Velvet's Level 3 Mystic Arte. But it didn't finish it off and she got killed immediately after. And since I don't roll that way I restarted. ...Only to have the exact same thing happen again. just couldn't resist the temptation for style. i was mad at this point so i kicked it down to moderate because i had already established i could win and finally resisted the temptation. Silly fight though, felt like a huge grind. Wasn't really that fun. I blame Millia. They're both absurdly tanky but Unknown type is just BS on top of that. The fights were fine when they were fought individually but they became absurd tanks in this one.

Anyway looks like I still have at least one more quest to go~

Not sure how much is left to Berseria but right now my plan is to go to Danganronpa V3 once I'm finished. After that I will reassess based on when exactly that is. .hack//G.U. Last Recode has ultimate priority over literally everything but depending on how much time I have maybe I can fit something short after that?

I tested the song out on the prime representative of the VGMC demographic (read: Ed Bellis) and he said he didn't like it, so I knew it wouldn't gain any traction.

I thought Berseria got weaker in the last third or so, once Artorius starts getting more villainous. Not that it ever got bad, and everything in their was pretty good, but the main squad becoming more of the good guys was pretty sad. I also never liked Phi much, though most people really seem to like him a lot. Oh well.

Yeah I also thought Artorius's position on the good/evil scale should have been more ambiguous. I don't think it ended up as a huge problem or anything though.
