DR1 and DR2 both had their two best girls die. Three in DR2's case.

DR1's best girl was Hina, but she's pretty middle of the road for DR overall. In 2 we lost Ibuki AND Chiaki, absolute tragedys. V3, it's Kaede and Iruma as the biggest losses. I had just started warming up to Tenko. Would have warmed up to Kirumi if she hadn't of been Mahiru'd.

I enjoyed Himiko. Degenerate Male was WAY overused, but Tenko was scoring major points in chapter 3. Angie may be the worst DR girl. I've been told "Atua" was a dub thing and she just straight up talked about God in the original, but I don't think that would have helped.

Angie and Gonta both stand out as most different from expectations going in in the whole franchise. Angie I thought would be a bubbly Ibuki like. As for Gonta, some may recall that he was the only character I actively disliked after the demo, and that I hated his gimmick and voice and hoped he died quick.

Now....my precious boy. Oh how I miss you.

Can confirm Angie simply talks about God (or a god, anyways: she uses Kamisama, which generally refers to a monotheistic god, but it's pretty clearly not the Abrahamic god. Or at least, that's the impression I got way back when).

I don't recall how Himiko said magic, so I can't comment on that one.

I do wanna say that I think NISA did a great job in general. Pretty great VA cast, and the english version certainly had the least amount of copied over jokes that most Westerners won't get in general, and that's always tough to pull off when you have to come up with replacements. Yeah, Donald Trump jokes may be a little on the nose, but there's much more than that. Something tells me the line wasn't in the original.



There was one joke that soared over my head, but apparently that's because it was actually Ace Attorney 6 spoilers. Only myself to blame.

Yeah, I've seen it in doujins and such. I don't really have any problem with the translation as degenerate male. Fit her personality well enough.

You also get a Monopad theme based on the minigame that isn't obtainable any other way, if you care about that.

Idk about courses, but the card machines upgrade whenever you reach the next floor after beating a boss (they're on every 10th floor; you can leave the dungeon as soon as you go down the stairs and get the "Card machines upgraded." message, but make sure to activate the elevator on the boss floor first).

This was probably my least favorite ending of anything ever. I'm already predisposed to dislike "meta" stuff and this was the stupidest thing.

I'm still gonna do character rankings though.

Finally someone I suppose. It was a little weird to me that the fanbase seems so harshly divided on this ending but we hadn't gotten anyone here who didn't like it yet.

Tenko is great

I think DRV3 has the best overall cast of all the games. No single character really hits the top tier though but the only bad character in v3 is Angie, and she's only unbearable in chapter 3 honestly.

I was thinking last night that this was the only DR where every character at least had potential. Obviously some got cut short and some went down the wrong path, but this game has no Teruterus or Hifumis.

If this game had ended with Tsumugi revealed as the mastermind of a long stream of killing games, giving us a flashback to us playing as Rantaro in DR 52, that would have been fine. If the game had just been "your remembered identities are faked" that would have been just dandy. this "video game character realizes they're a character" is just so hack and cliche at this point.

The revelation is that they're a television show.

I don't think it went quite as meta as you think, though that's obviously the parallel they were going for.

Specifically they mention that the first few entries were games and anime, but then it evolved beyond that into "reality fiction".

I get that. I'm just saying that because V3 was a video game, Chapter 6 is essentially us as the player realizing that our video game characters have become self aware that they are in a simulacra and that they aren't "real." Whether or not it's a show or a videogame is beside the point.

Eh, I don't really agree that it is beside the point. If it was actually a video game, then that would make NONE of it real. The people were still real, the killing was still real, etc.

Like, the whole "Character realizes they're in a video game/whatever and takes advantage of that fact" is overplayed, sure. But this is different. Danganronpa is a reality TV show, sure... But everything that is happening to the people is still real. They're still killing each other, trying to survive, etc. It's just that, for example, Shuichi is just some random dude and not the "Ultimate Detective." The "Ultimate Detective" is the character he is playing that he didn't know was fake. He's still watching people kill each other and trying to solve it.

To be fair, they're referring to a fictional audience. Yeah, it's a tongue-in-cheek "The players won't like it, either." But there's an actual audience in the game that it's referring to, and not JUST breaking the fourth wall just to break the fourth wall.

loved the ending, it was a wild, totally absurd ride. it was danganronpa. excited to jump into some of the post-game stuff soon. some of the game was kind of a drag, but it was awesome overall.

A thought just accursed to me about chapter 3's motive in the context of the ending.

They would have just......gotten some random lookalike off the street and given him the same fake memories as Rentaro, huh?
