oh, I don't know that anyone ever displayed how to do sex to us, I mean "sex ed" more as teaching us about our anatomies and stuff, which is all you would need to be able to properly discuss trans people

probably not even that. If the kids get the concept of there being boys and girls, you don't need to get into particulars of biology to say "sometimes there are girls who were born as boys" or whatever

I got a very general biological thing in 4th or 5th grade, and learned more about the act of sex in 7th grade. High school we had more anonymous counselor session kind of things where we'd put questions in a jar and then they'd be pulled out and answered.

I'm still basically in 5th Grade so I've got a fresh take. They split the boys and girls and talked about puberty and the changes that we'd experience, with a basic intro to STDs and how girl get pragnet. We devoted part of health each year in Middle School to it as well, and much of 9th/12th grade health was focused on it in more depth.

The only significant sex ed class I ever had was in 11th grade. Anything before that was super generic stuff in a health or science class.

It's pretty fucked up.

Yeah America is pretty damn prudish as a country and it doesn't really jive with the rest of our morals. For instance we don't really care how violent our movies and tv shows are but drop and f-bomb or show some sex and you get an R rating.


I don't think I had any sex ed until middle school and even then it was just a small part of science class. We also had to get a parents signature or we would have been excused from it.

I recall having sex ed in either 5th or 6th grade, but it wasn't really all that useful or informative. It was also at a kind of odd school (basically an English school in the Netherlands for kids whose parents were in the military and stationed in the area, so while it was primarily American run it was also Canadian/British influenced so it's hard to use this as an example of typical American or typical Canadian practices)
