I typically don't like the Astros, mostly because they were a division rival with us no too long go, but damn are they fun to watch. Probably gonna root for them if the Cubs get knocked out. Won't really have a horse in the race though.

Hendricks is gonna have a night though. Just need the offense to come through for once this series.

Can we shelve all that "fire Girardi" bullshit forever now?

Like to bring this young team all the way back from the brink after the crushing loss in Game 2 is some pretty amazing stuff. I feel like most teams would've just capitulated but we fought right back against arguably the best team in Baseball (It's still the Dodgers IMO).

So excited.

I had to hear all weekend from my best friend (Sox fan) and some other Yankee fans about how Girardi was managing for his job and I read about that and I'm like how on Earth are we watching the same manager.

He's done more with less for the last four years than just about anyone. And NOW? He's got some actual talent and we're in the ALCS.

Manager of the year with ease.

Trying to think of how best to set up our rotation.

Using Tanaka in Game one seems like a throw-away if we're against Keuchel, who I'm almost POSITIVE Houston is gonna go with so they have the chance to throw him three times if the series goes long. And Tanaka isn't as good on the road but he will go in Game 1 or 2 no matter what so I'd like to see it in Game 1 so we can see him earlier at Yankee Stadium.

Game 2 then is Severino and Game 3 is Sabathia.

Game 4 then opens you up to the decision of Tanaka on short rest, or another option?

I feel like Sonny Gray has pitched himself out of consideration this late in the season. We cannot afford disastrous starts against the Astros. Even if we were 3-0 up going into Game 4, I'd say it'd have to be Tanaka on short rest.

But then we're doing the same thing with Severino. I'm not worried at all about CC on short rest if it gets to that point, but Tanaka and Severino worry me.

For the Astros, if we beat Keuchel once, we win the series. It's that simple. We've dealt with Verlander before and while he's very good, I do not fear him like I do Keuchel. Charlie Morton? No fear at all. Brad Peacock? LOL

Point is our starting ro actually goes deeper than theirs does.

If we could just figure out Dallas Keuchel the way we did Corey Kluber, I mean, we have a really good shot I think.

If I felt at all positive that Sonny Gray could get us 6 innings, I'd sacrifice him against Keuchel even in a loss.

I think Severino in Game 2 vs. Verlander is a solid bet and then Tanaka at home for Game 3 against whatever Houston throws at us puts us in great shape, especially as the series moves on.

Maybe that's what Girardi will do.

We just can't have Gray get lit up and then have to exhaust our entire bullpen in Game 1. If Gray could get us even 5 decent innings while they waste Keuchel on him, I'd say it's worth it.

Don't sell Peacock short, that guy has been great.

Also, we have been winning in spite of Girardi. He cannot manage a bullpen.

Also Gary should be hitting second.

Just learned Yankees didn't sell out. That is mind boggling to me.

My friend went to game 4. Bought his tickets last minute from Yankees website directly. 75 bucks each. Like sure they were bad seats but how do you not sell outa playoff game in NY with tix that cheap (for a playoff game). Its not like people cant afford it in new york.

It would have been easy to get face value tickets for the ALCS in Boston. A decade ago we had lotteries for mid-week games for bad out of division opponents, this year you could go to the website for future playoff games.

I have a few takes on the issue. For one, while the young guys are generally likeable, baseball does a horrible job promoting them. And they've grown up in the 24 hour news cycle, not wanting to say or do anything besides succeed on the field. I've had Aaron Judge shoved in my face for 6 months and all I know is that he's tall, he crushes the ball and strikes out a lot.

It's also not a big deal anymore to keep winning. Like, it's a big deal, people go to work and talk about it and listen to sports talk radio, but it's not "hundreds of dollars on tickets/transportation/concessions" deal anymore. We've all had our time in the stands during playoff games.

A big factor for me, is the age of scalpers. It's over for now. But it used to be tough to get good tickets, and then it became impossible to get *any* tickets. So instead of paying scalpers to watch a midweek game against the then-hapless Royals, why not watch the game from home on my HDTV, or just go out and do something active myself? I think big sellout streaks, of long periods of success that make tickets a premium item, end up causing a gap in your fanbase in terms of their expectations for going to games. Look at the Red Sox sellout streak that went a half season of half empty seats because it was all purchased by scalpers.

And, those people just grew up and have other stuff to spend money on. I used to feel let down if I went to less than 10 games a season, now I go to 1. That $75 ticket is now $150 for significant other and even more if the kids go.

Teams that aren't really starved for playoff success have to find a way to grab the 20somethings and, coming up, current teenagers. They've done a crappy job of that, while also allowing the 30+ crowd to drift away.

Yeah and they realized it immediately after the backlash to their celebration rules last year.

Look at why the NBA is flourishing, not just because of all the stars, but because after James Harden hits a big three pointer he's allowed to do his Stirring It Up celebration without getting a penalty for it.

Well some teams still sell out right? The appeal is the atmosphere of being surrounded by 55K people you don't know and celebrating with them, high fiving people around you, etc. Being there in person is just a different experience. I think baseball offers the best difference as far as in-game vs at home experience, and I promise that isn't my biased love of baseball speaking. I know so many people who don't like watching baseball at all, but love going to baseball games. That's because the game is the slowest of the major ones, and sure the most "boring" (I don't think so but I get it), but a baseball game offers a lot of distraction and things to do other than watching the game, which is due to the slower pace. It's probably the most relaxing experience too... the average fan doesn't have to feel compelled to be fully at attention at all times. And then when something exciting does happen you can celebrate more (obviously true for all sports though).

As for playoffs, it has to be the most tense, right? Because of the downtime... like a ticking bomb about to go off.

I'm not really talking about sellout streaks or whatever though. This is a playoff game. It should be sold out. Do THAT many Yankees fans rally just not care that much about the ALDS?
