There will of course be a variety of favorites of mine as it is a personal project in a way but... I have taken a large majority of songs from a pool of the most popular or mainstream songs from each decade.

I will say that one of the main things I look for in each tune is whether or not it holds interest in a couple ways. Such as "do I want to listen to the whole thing", "am I compelled to sing or hum along" and even "does it get stuck in my head" etc.

As far as stacking the songs, here is the scorecard I am using. (Notice that I am not using "Top" list statistics to generate a score)

This will represent the overall rhythm of the song.

[The Hook] = .......... 0/10
This will represent how likely it is that I listen to the whole song if it popped up on the radio.

[The Memories] = .......... 0/10
This will represent how much the song invokes personal memories.

[The Message] = .......... 0/10
This will represent the message of the song or the difficulty of understanding it's meaning.

[The Stickiness] = .......... 0/10
This will represent the likelyhood that the song will get stuck in my head when I hear it.

[2nd Opinion Bonus] = .......... 0/10
This will represent my wife's rating. (She wanted to participate as she is a big music buff)

[Video Bonus] = .......... 0/10
This will represent the awesomeness of the video attached to the song. (I will do my best to find as many official videos as possible)

Genre balance is not a concern of mine unfortunately but there is music from Rock, Soft Rock, R&B, Heavy Metal, Country, Alternative, Techno, Top 40, Instrumental or Ambience, Punk Rock, Rap etc.

Basically I didn't search specifically for one genre or the other. I literally searched through EVERY Single year for the best and most popular tunes from every category.

Whether or not I included a tune didn't just rest on it's popularity though. There were sooooo many terrible tunes that were popular that I did not include because they didn't fit the theme of "Is it catchy enough?"

Also there are no Nominations this time around unfortunately. You will have to wait and see what comes up! :P

Another thing I'd like to point out is that I will have a final list of 200 songs from and representing each decade that I have included in the ranking.

I don't even know how many songs I've listened to in the last 8 months...

Feels like 10,000 but realistically I think It's around 3 to 4,000 songs I've listened to so far.

I can't wait for this to kick off! Gonna drop it as soon as it's finished so a big fyi that the mid-October release may move up a bit.

I'm soooo close to a final list. =D

Having a tough time rounding out the 10's (It probably doesn't help that I am only pulling from 7 1/2 years of songs instead of 10)

Anyway... I'm getting pretty close to a final list.

Progress:
200 songs from the 70's have been selected.
200 songs from the 80's have been selected.
190 songs from the 90's have been selected.
190 songs from the 00's have been selected.
80 songs from the 10's have been selected.

For a Total of 860/1,000 songs selected so far. (I actually have more songs than that on my lists but this is just a representation of the officially selected songs that have not hit the cutting room floor so to speak)

I had said that I wanted to re-visit that list a couple times so It is on my list of things to do.

I'm hoping this is a big enough success that I become the "dude that ranks 1,000 things" and then I'll have some newfound motivation to make a 3rd "Ranks 1,000".

To this day (and someone can correct me if I am wrong...) I am not aware of anyone else on Gamefaqs that has ranked 1,000 of anything. (I think muffin was the closest at a 600 user ranking once)

Made some more progress on the list. I have a color coded list that pretty much shows which tunes are High priority, decent but possibly replaceable, and definitely replaceable so I've started to search and find some tunes to knock out the replaceable songs as I have more than 200 tunes selected for the 70's, 80's and 00's. Still don't have 200 for the 10's yet but I'm inching closer by the day.

Starting to realize that I'm not so much a fan of the 10's to today.

Not sure what it is but I'm finding a large percent of music these days to be barely meh.

Does anyone else feel that way about the current decade?
