Today is August 31st. I post this from the state of Minnesota.

If a human enters my property without my permission intent on robbing me or hurting me or even is just lost, I can shoot him/her dead in self defense and face no repercussions.

If a wild turkey wanders into my back yard, I will face repercussions for killing it because it's not turkey season.

Your thoughts?

i'm fine with this unless said turkey is tearing shit up in your yard. hunting laws are in place because humans have shown a history of no self control when it comes to hunting a animal to extinction. people would circumvent hunting laws if it where legal to shoot them just cause they where in their yard by claiming it was in their yard when they shot it.

thats taking it a bit far, as mail men/ups etc would fear to deliver packages and it would cause cops to be overly aggressive and already having weapons drawn upon coming up to your house even over something as simple as a missed court date.

edit: hell they are bad enough as it is, cop almost shot my fucking dog, came up to arrest my step father over a missed court date (over a damn speeding ticket) he said sure but mind if a grab a coat first? cop said yeah and like 20 seconds after he went to get his coat it was like the cop realized "omg he might flee out the back door" started to just barge into the house to be met by my dog, and he started to reach for his gun but my mom stopped him

i've always hated that. in my personal opinion I feel a person should have as much right to protect their possessions as they do their own life. some people might find it idiotic. but it sucks when someone makes off with a highly expensive and not easily replaced item just because well they where fleeing by that point.

That is not what self-defense law says in almost any US state and I doubt Minnesota is an exception, although I won't bother looking up their statute right now (maybe later). You can only harm someone in self-defense if you reasonably believe it to be the minimum amount of force necessary to stop them from harming you. The more relaxed "castle doctrine" only applies to people breaking into your home, where the act of breaking into your house is seen as sufficient evidence that they intend to do you harm. If someone wanders across your land for some reason, that doesn't count.

that much is true on the land part, they have to be physically in your house .what I find stupid though is I can't attack a guy for running off with say an expensive but also sentimental item that can't simply be replaced. I honestly feel people should be allowed to protect their property, i'm sorry I don't have sympathy for thieves.

Idk, as an outsider I feel like the availability is way too easy and common, and you hear 'xyz shooter killed 25 people in zyx place' news every now and then and they're all from the US.

So that's why I said toys; as in how easy its available and so many people own firearms, they're not available this easily in just about any other part of the world.

yes generally speaking women are physically weaker than males, though i've noticed with the way the world is going that line is blurring as a life of convenience has definitely softened most of the males. and even still as my grandad would always say holding up his gun "this is the great equalizer" (for him though he was referring to himself being to old to fight anymore)

this was a long time ago. like the 40s. nowdays you may get in trouble just for spanking your kids, and people wonder why my generation and younger is so fucked.

edit: not that I agree with neighbors beating a kids ass. but all the backhands I took from my grandfather didn't do me any permanent harm. I didn't back talk him for 8 years, it accomplished that much until I learned as long as I was out of arms reach I was good.
