I remember last year during a conference panel with Hiro Mashima, one of the audience questions had to do with the fanservice in his series.

He was actually very proud of the fanservice he could draw because he liked his characters so much, and they were very well liked by fans too.

Watched a few eps of Little Witch Academia on the ol' Netflix.

I think I'm siding with lefty after a good 6-7 episodes.

The show just isn't very interesting. I'm mostly checking it out, because the trailers for the game looked solid. Shame, I wasn't a fan of Kill la Kill, but hey that could have been just a one off and with LWA, I don't hate the show, I just can't get engaged.

Story's just not doing it for me, the episodic content isn't particularly funny or interesting and the subplots don't feature any hooks that have me dying to find out the reveals.


Maybe I should just get started on The Tatami Galaxy instead.

Depends on who is releasing it. I think at the cheapest they can be around $20-30 before any kind of bargain deals and then you have guys like Aniplex who typically want $100 or more for the almost 0 work they actually do

I thought it was well known by now I basically always prefer short hair designs on girls!

That's fine but I feel like there are lots of other factors to consider.

Not all short hair styles are the same and neither are long ones. Plus I think the artstyle of Toriyama was just better at attractive girls when it was more gag inspired.

Anyways for the 3 most popular anime selling companies I can think of Funimation > Sentai > Aniplex (don't ever buy from these douches unless you like being ripped off. They usually want literally $60 for a fucking 1.5-2 hour anime movie with no dub or anything)

Through another community I was able to think of some reasoning of why Aniplex charges so much

* Audiophiles have pointed out they make absolutley sure audio quality is at its best, FUNImation recently cheaped out especially on their streaming though they fixed it a little bit
* Aniplex have special interviews and features gauranteed
* Video Quality is generally really good

Literally none of that is worth the 4x price they charge. You can buy all of Titan S1 in dual audio for cheaper than I think you can buy literally any anime Aniplex sells.

I'm pretty sure the real reason is they want people paying about the same price Japanese people pay. If you want it legally you have no choice and have to pay their outrageous prices so they can make huge profits. They probably easily make the most money because 1 sale for them is like 10 for anybody else.

Thankfully lots of their shows end up on Netflix of Hulu so you dont have to pay BD prices if you just want to watch the show and thats it

Yep. So disappointed Aniplex has the P3 movies because it pretty much killed any hope of the English game cast doing the dub. Even if they did though it would also cost like $300~ at least for the 4 movies so I wouldn't have bought them anyways. I'll just have to settle for watching it in Japanese whenever I get to it. I think Netflix or Hulu randomly have like the 3rd movie and none of the others.

I'd call $320 pretty bad for 7-8 movies. I mean it beats the $700~ or so they wanted before, but it's still a bad deal.

Aniplex actually brought over F/GO in English. I'll cut them some slack for that.

In the end, Aniplex's parent company is frickin' Sony. They could very well be the reason behind their outrageous pricing.

also you don't really need the best units in f/go either

You don't in Dokkan either and it has 10x the rates. Sure some of the SSRs are bad now, but at least Dokkan hasn't added Ns or Hercule statues to stone pulls (F/GO's essences might as well be those to me because I give 0 fucks about non-Servants)

if I can be serious for a moment, I think subs are generally "better" but dubs allow me to multitask anime with other things. I really struggle to pay attention to subs sometimes and this never happens with dubs. so I like subs and dubs in their own different ways.

It's a show to show basis. The idea that one is universally better is absurd.

What kind of hardcore weeb would sit there and try to claim that the sub for Bebop, FLCL, or for god's sake Ghost Stories is better? And to reverse, what kind of asshole would say From the New World or Mai Hime is better dubbed?

I actually don't think the Bebop dub is anything to write home about for whatever that's worth. Haven't really heard the subbed version outside of a scene or two though.

I think I can try to claim that. Not that I'm really familiar with the dub, and I think it sounded good, but I still had qualms with how Spike sounded. I think it didn't really bring that character across as well as the Japanese VA did.

Like he sounded...too cool? Even when he delivers self-deprecating lines he sounds like he's trying to be cool with his sarcasm than actually being depressed and using sarcasm to hide it.
