It'd be pretty cool to see the differences tbh. McDonalds in other countries aren't mere carbon copies of the ones in America. Hell, Japan has like some kind of quadruple burger or some shit. Yet we're the ones giving out too much portions?

When my in laws came to visit from England, they were surprised with how much bigger the burgers were and how much cheaper McDonald's is compared to them. Even the nuggets were smaller they said.

McDonalds is lousy anyhow. The store-brand burgers sold in supermarkets are better. If you go to another country and absolutely must have a burger, visit a domestic burger restaurant. Like, if you go to Finland, go to a Hesburger.

I was in France and I ate at McDonalds. I'd tried a bunch of different french cuisine while I was there, and aside from the bread I really hadn't liked much of it at all and so I hadn't been eating very much for a few days.

When I saw a McDonalds my only thought was "finally, I can actually get a meal that I know will fill me up and not make me sick." I bought 4 double-cheeseburgers, a large fry, 10-piece nugget, and large drink and ate every last bit of it.

Then I continued trying french cuisine the rest of the trip and never found anything that was "french" that I enjoyed other than the bread.

Let me share this similar story for everyone. From my own personal experience growing up.
I grew up being raised by my two old fashioned mexican grandparents. She made your standard mexican food probably 4 times a week. Tacos, enchiladas, burritos, tostadas, etc. with beans and rice.
But then every single time we went out anywhere out of town. Shopping every fucking Sunday of my life, all day. Or a hundred times more irritating, when we would be on vacation. Every. Single. Vacation. They would have to look for a mexican restaurant. To have the same mother fucking food we could have any damn day of the week at home!
Chinese in San Francisco? American in Santa Fe? Italian? BBQ? Here we are. We're in St. George Utah. Durango Colorado. Can we have something different? Nope. We have to find the fucking mexican restaurant. We have to leave Yosemite and the Grand Canyon early to get to the nearest town before 5pm to find the fucking mexican restaurant.

This is harsh. But it wasn't until they were both dead that I/we as a family could finally go eat at other places. My god it's such a relief. I've now had that Chinese food in Frisco and eaten at the fancy restaurant on the edge of the Grand Canyon (just two weeks ago in fact).

The main reason to do this is to see how different it is, because they serve different menu items and the experience as a whole is different depending on culture. It's not like people are going to foreign countries JUST to eat McD's. If you're gonna be somewhere for a few days, one meal isn't exactly going to define your trip.

It would be a terrible idea if you only had one restaurant you could eat at in that country and you chose McDonalds... however if you're there for a while and just think it would be kind of cool to check out, why not?

This. I live in Asia and have travelled the region extensively. I can't stand most Asian foods. My wife and I go to McDonald's like once per week, rest of the time I cook for myself (had steak and home fries for dinner tonight for example). I like fried rice and stuff like that but I can't stand pad Thai, curries or noodle soups. Allergic to shellfish and the only kind of fish I've ever liked was halibut and it has to be fish/chips style. I'm also really intolerant to spicy foods and Thais love to put copious amounts of chili into everything.

You do realize that fast food restaurants outside of the US are vastly different right? They also use a lot of local foods to make interesting stuff that you would never see in the US branches. They also use higher quality ingredients.

Because I've been to both German and Turkish McDonalds and honestly if I wanted local cuisine, I'd get that, and not a burger.

They were good. More expensive but significantly better than US McD's, which I refuse to eat at.
