I've been to a McDonald's in Austria and it had a fast casual atmosphere about it. Something like Panera.

Looked pretty nice.

I agree with OP. It's a fucking waste that people do this. Sure, if you're flat out busy and you just need some food and you don't feel confident about the sanitation, but that's not what OP is on about. Some people literally just want to never experience culture.

You see this attitude with white trash Brits in Spain. They go to spain, so they can sit on the beach and drink carling. No genuine interest to learn or experience spanish culture unless it involves a pub. Sad as fuck.

I'm not sure what the point of being on holiday somewhere is if you're just going to go about business like you have 30 minutes for lunchbreak on a tuesday at work.

Don't know if someone already said this, but two things:

1 - Things that are abundant in the US are still greatly different in other countries. For instance, McDonald's in another country might taste better or worse because of the quality of the meat, and they might have different things on the menu. It's just like how someone might drink Coca-Cola in another country even though they have their own sodas - yeah it's fun to try out those sodas, but it's also great to see how Coke with real sugar tastes (I know, they've brought back "Mexican Coke" a few years ago, but still).

also

2 - You're on vacation, you've eaten out for a few days in a row for lunch and dinner, the food's kind of expensive and you've been trying new things out the whole time. Sometimes you just want to not spend a ton of money and just eat something you're a little more familiar with to let your palette reset.

Those two points being said, I don't understand the people who go to another country and only exclusively eat fast food.

The main reason to do this is to see how different it is, because they serve different menu items and the experience as a whole is different depending on culture. It's not like people are going to foreign countries JUST to eat McD's. If you're gonna be somewhere for a few days, one meal isn't exactly going to define your trip.

McDonalds in foreign countries likely fry the fries in beef fat rather than vegetable oil, so it would be quite a treat.

When you're on a country for a couple of weeks it is kinda nice to get a quick, familiar meal in between all of it tbh. The differences are interesting too.

If it's something to get every day I don't understand it though.

I never noticed it in Tokyo but to be fair I wasn't really looking for it.

Fun fact I did go to Tokyo McDonald's. After we ordered we got a table number and they dropped it off to our table. Haven't seen any others like that.

I tried out Burger King there too because they had some black burger thing for a limited time.

The McDonald's I went to in Narita wasn't like that. Seemed like a typical McDonald's but every single table had outlets to plug in your phone which was pretty cool.

The vast majority of places in Japan don't have those sorts of signs or policies, and a lot of them are based on past experiences with foreigners in the area rather than simply a dislike of non-Japanese people. Some of those policies are also based on the language barrier, although those are surprisingly few by comparison.

That said, some of them are definitely just that racist.

It's interesting how there's a double standard where people will make excuses for people who do this in non-white-majority countries, yet if someone did it in a white majority country it would be universally condemned.
