How good is your vision?

I noticed that a lot of people in the LASIK topic commented about vision problems and was wondering whether that was representative of the whole or if just attracted respondents with vision issues.

I know there's this whole stereotype about geeks and nerds wearing glasses, but I didn't really believe that was grounded in reality because most of the geeks/nerds I know don't wear them.

Also, if there's a possible reason for your vision problems (rather than just some genetic issue), I'd be curious to hear it.

Quite poor. I have a fairly rare eye condition that essentially removes my depth perception. I've worn glasses since I was three, and they help, but my vision will never be perfect.

It's kind of shocking that I don't need glasses given the number of vision problems in my family. Both of my sisters need glasses, my mom needs them, my aunts and uncles on both sides need them, but I don't and my dad didn't.

My eye exams aren't perfect, but they're usually saying something like I'd benefit from glasses but it's such a marginal difference that glasses are probably more trouble than having to squint for a second once in a while.

I'm not sure, haven't had an actual eye exam since high school. It was perfectly fine then, although I do think I may be near sighted. When on the road everyone else is reading signs from way further than I can lol.

I had to renew my license last year, and they had me do a simple "read this chart" one, and they did I got them all. So I assume that my vision is fine, at least for relatively close things.

Idk what the legal limit is, but without my glasses I can't see past about 6 inches.

I mean, i can "see" in the sense that I can perceive giant blobs of colour, like I can discern a car from the road, but that's about it.

if you look through wax paper, that's essentially emulating my right eyes vision.

legally, i'm not supposed to even drive

my left eye is super fucking perfect though, and my brain has adapted enough that i do have depth perception. it's really weird.

Kinda curious about the condition itself. What's the name of it?

Refractive amblyopia. It's often called "lazy eye", but the form of it that most people think of is strabismus amblyopia (that's the one that gives you the bugged-out eye). Basically, my left eye just literally doesn't send as much visual information to my brain as my right eye does. If I cover my right eye, I can't see anything at all past blurry shapes. It's possible to have both refractive and strabismus, but luckily I never had the bugged-out eye thing.

i've heard about people correcting "lazy eye" by wearing an eyepatch over the good eye but i'm guessing that doesn't work for your thing?

I wear contacts/glasses. Without them everything is blurry beyond 10 inches. I did drive from San Antonio to Houston with only one contact in once and had no problems.

I actually did that for a while when I was a kid but it didn't seem to help and I was just miserable because I couldn't see anything so my mom stopped making me do it >_>

I've worn glasses since I was 9 - I'm nearsighted.

My parents suspected it as far back as when I was 5. Apparently, I couldn't see airplanes in the sky, but I sure as hell could see the Goodyear blimp flying overhead.

Clear as mud, although I have gotten by without them whenever I broke or lost my glasses, just sucks because I can't recognize people like 15 feet away so when I was out and about I wouldn't notice it was a friend until they said something.

Good in general as I don't wear glasses or contacts. However these GAD symptoms I've been getting consist of slightly blurred vision at times. I assume that due to muscle tension.
