Probably because the message boards over on Steam are actually pretty good, and the game guides actually helpful.

Quite true. The Discussions are more informative on the game level. There are other places out there probably better for hardware discussions.

Considering how PC went from being the bastard stepchild on this site to being constantly brought up by asshats in every unrelated gaming conversation, that would imply that even more console gamers are leaving.

That really doesn't stop me from posting there tho. I have so many tags for people to make sure I'm not being baited by people. There are several users which are basically paid to post content on there.

It doesn't seem to bad there. Many people are giving genuine advice but I do notice several "troll" types and "jokes".

The problem is that people's "advice" in't always the right advice. The normal bystander may not understand / know current hardware trends. It's a very opinionated area.

That's based on total participation and not the number of people who responded "Yes," right? While it's probably not a terrible metric, I'm not sure that it's the best poll for a year-by-year comparison since you'll have a lot of non-PC gamers who don't care enough to respond and, if somebody has answered the poll in previous years, they might also be less likely to respond.

Personally, I used to vote in daily PotDs but lately I bypass the front page in favor of the boards.

The problem is the daily "I want to build a $500 gaming PC" threads, when most people who post there / are knowledgeable have much more expensive machines, which aren't necessarily just for gaming.
