If you won $300 MILLION+ in the Lottery, how would you live?

David Kaltschmidt and his wife Maureen Smith, the lucky Florida couple who won the daily double Powerball Jackpot of 328 MILLION in 2016 have clearly not let that get to their heads as the former poor couple still live in the SAME HOUSE and have barely upgraded their cars and they still use re-usable shopping bags when they go grocery shopping!!

They pocketed the biggest jackpot in history as the frugal couple changed NOTHING in their everyday lives..

Their 3-way share of the record 1.56 billion prize prpelled them to America's SUPER RICH with more than enough funds to buy yachts, supercars and sprawling mansions..

They decided to stay put in their modest 300,000 Florida home and go to the same shops and restaurants and STILL play POWERBALL!

One person said "They have hundreds of millions burning a hole in their pocket but it's almost as if nothing has changed. They are as conservative as ever."

71 y/o Maureen still does weekly shopping and chats with staff as she continues to buy powerball tickets time to time

56 y/o David, an ex-engineer bought himself a new car as neighbors thought they'd be long gone by now or at least a new Ferrari but instead he traded in his top of the range Cadillac and bought a gold coloured SUV

The only splashy item they bought was a 90,000 Tesla in matching gold for Maureen..and even has a VANITY PLATE.

Neighbors and friends can only speculate what they've done with the rest of the money as they didn't expect them to return to their old house...

They have 2 grown children, 50 y/o Michael and 47 y/o Denise and have picked the same numbers for over 30 years before winning and by the advice of lawyers, kept their win a secret for a month, even from their own CHILDREN..

Like Maureen and David, the 2 other winners took the lump sum of 328 million because of their age

John and Lisa from Tennessee did what most other winners did and went public with their win and bought massive luxury items and are now living the good life.

Marvin and Mae from California however dedicated nearly ALL of their winnings to CHARITY as they said it was a rare gift to help others..

Would you still live like an ordinary peasant if you won a massive 300 MILLION+ Jackpot? let's see what people will vote

Maureen and David - Rich people living like the poor

I feel like this is what I would do if I ever won the lottery. Just have a modest house and vehicle, then maybe spend the rest of my time traveling.

I probably wouldn't even want to retire from working permanently. I think I'd still want to keep doing something.

I'd do this, too. I've seen far, FAR too many stories of people who win money like that blowing through it extremely quickly and winding up much worse off then they were before money wise and social wise. I wouldn't even buy new cars for my family, just some really good traded in ones

Well, in my head, I would live about the same. I like my home, but I would probably move to another modest home just to reduce the likelihood of being harassed for money. I would upgrade my car to some nice 2017 model (never really had a taste for sports cars or other luxury vehicles), probably just upgrade things that would improve quality of life. Maybe donate a little bit but realistically, I'm selfish and would keep most all of it.

But...all that is easy to say when I don't have millions laying around. In reality, I'd probably quit my job and embark on some lavish, first-class vacations.

I would buy some new nice things but not over spend and buy an obscene new home and blow through the money. A modest living with nicer things and do a workd tour or so but not go crazy.

It is a lot of money and sometimes it is better to not waste it, also the couple who still live poor are an older couple so they are set in their ways most likely or saving the money for their children.

The couple that donated most of it to charity was foolish as hell in my book, all that money and they gave most of it away instead of a 50/50 split or a 75% for them and 25% to charity. So many other people could use that money better in my book.

Once you start buying nicer things, it can get addictive, because in order to re-capture the high you got from upgrading your car the first time, you'll need to buy an even nicer car. Apply the same thing to houses, food, clothes, jewelry, electronics, art, entertainment, etc...and yeah it can be pretty easy to blow through any amount of money.
That is an example of a person not being happy enough with the new things they get, one upgrade should be enough, greed is what ruins people, and not being happy with the new things, they need more and more which is the issue.

Get the things you like and be happy with that, then in 5 or 10 years get a few more expensive but not stupid expensive things.

I can understand blowing through one mil if you immediately just start darching, but people who blow through 300 mil and end up in poverty always baffle me.

Like say you buy an expensive car. Even if you upgrade your Lambo/Ferrari/McLaren/RUF etc. to the newest model each time a new one comes out, vehicles like that hold their value ridiculously well so when you upgrade you don't even lose that much on trade in or through private sale.

And the upgrade shouldn't have to be that often unless you literally buy a new car each month in which case your a fuck.

It's CE. You could be 98 years old with no wife of kids and hit the lottery, and they would still tell you to invest all of it
